Default Bankfishing for Springers: Can it be done?

I'm sure it can be done, but how can it effectively be done? Can I fish a diver and bait from the bank with a cast and slow-retrive method? What other ways are effective? What kind of water will they hold up in?

Also, Does the Chehalis get a run of Springers?

Me and my buddies cuaght and released several springers last year as a by-catch while plunking spin-n-glos along the beaches off the lower Columbia for steelhead. Couldn't keep them off our hooks.

Plunking spin and glows alone or with
shrimp or prawns does score Springers
on the channel side of Sauvie Island.
You can drive almost all the way to the
Coon Island Marina and there are
several bank spots in the area.

One more redneck? Puh___leez. All dem other fellers ain't nuthin' but posers. Besides, dey ain't from LA (lower Alabama) and they surely aren't this good-lookin'.

Thanks for the info fellas. I hate plunkin'. It's just boring to me. It may be effective, but it's boring to me...lol At least on a river. Now a tidal spot, it may be fun.

Yes it can be done.Bobber fishing with bait like you would for fall chinook works good in the deeper holes and drifting eggs and or shrimp is sometimes effective and if there are summer steelhead around you might hook one as a bonus while drift fishing.

There are a few places in O.C. to fish for springers from the bank. I won't get too detailed because my one bankie friend will get really ******, but just fish around the Courthouse.

To Hey_Yall,
Now when you say Lower Alabama, I think of Okaloosa count, Florida.
Are we on the same page, or does that dog
hunt?

Dude we have a ton of wild turkeys, even the feathered kind. As soon as the family turmoil settles down, I'll pretty much know how many acres we can hunt if ya ont 2. I haven't killed a turkey in 7 years. I get more enjoyment out of calling them up, plus I like big game hunting better. It's awesome when you have about 80 of them under your stand while deer hunting when they start sparring.

Hey-yall- I didn't know there was any other way to catch them. Trolling works, but hour for hour, I hook many more fish off the bank. Drift fish just like steelhead except change your water (not yours...the river!). Look for the deep boils, chinooks like those. Course, you also have to watch out for the private property which is the worst problem. Outside of that, gob of eggs or shrimp and enough lead to bounce bottom in the heavy water.

I catch all my springers from the bank just not in the willamette. Clackamus, Sandy or the North Santiam and I do get fish every year bank fishing. BTW only Salmon I've got in the boat we're fall fish in the bays or out in the charters. Seriously though not alot of fishing off the bank in the big rivers.... tons of plunkers in the columbia and willamette but that is crowded fishing.
