I don't see why it wouldn't be legal. They're not a protected species.

No exposed sight baits are allowed I believe...........to protect the raptors ect.

Dirt hole bait sets work though...

For trapping, right. Were you thinking of baiting stations for stalking into or while calling Abalone?

Sorry....I had trap'n the brain.

It is unlawful for any person to trap for wild animals using:

7. Sight bait within 15 feet of any foothold trap set for carnivores.

Live bait is best. You can buy roosters at the Woodburn auction for about 5 bucks.

You know I have ( Like dah !) thought of that ! But I don't think we would get very far on IFISH before PETA would come crashing in with a Gag order.

Abalone... You need to see a coyote get called in. The live bait idea is a problem on so many levels. Those $5 roosters are probably quite mean.

Seeing is believing the saying goes. Coyotes must be good a visualizing since the sounds they come into are what seems to mean the most. I have taken most called in critters at shotgun range. They have come in a grayhound speeds often.

If there were a good oder to bring in a coyote I think it would be one that worked during the mating season. Again a big problem on many levels...

Bait is legal. Just make sure it is "non-game". No deer or duck carcasses. Carp is ok, so are other fur-bearers. This is for trapping.

Also, make sure it is not exposed (sight bait) Cover it with dirt, leaves or moss. Exposed bait next to traps is a recipie for catching hawks, eagles, and other raptors.
