Default Recurve Bow Question

I'm looking to get my wife a smooth shootin' recurve bow for Christmas. Not to hunt with, but to enjoy shooting 3D targets with me. One problem is that she's left handed, so it won't be as easy to find one I'd assume. Also, she won't shoot a lot, so I don't wanna break the bank.

Now for the question...I found one on ebay. 43# at 28", left handed, bear kodiak hunter. the bid is at $66. Is this a decent bow? Should I go for it? Says it's in good shape.

Thanks in advance...if you know of anywhere else I can look let me know. And don't go outbid me if this is a good one!

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about the recurve that you are inquiring about but I have a decent left handed compound that you can have real cheap (free). It's a Hoyt Raider 35-50# with a 25" draw. Early 90's vintage and in good shape. Cable is good and the string is good.

How long is it, and what is her draw length. If it is a shortie, like 56", it'll will stack up on her pretty good. Over 60" and you'll have a good shooter. A 43# recurve is pretty stout for most ladies, even if she is shooting it shorter. I think you take 2 or 3#'s off for ever inch under the spec weight. Kodiak's were good bows.

Is this the bow you're looking at?
http://cgi.ebay.com/vintage-left-han...QQcmdZViewItem

It says it's a 60 incher. I wouldn't go over $100, it's at $76 right now. Hopefully they didn't try shooting it with the string the diretcion it is now!

My son has the same exact bow, only right-handed. Pretty nice shooter for it's time. If you get it and need a new string, give me a shout.

Good luck!

I've got a Bear Kodiak recurve that I bought in '64. (Let's see... that makes me about 150 years old....)

I string it up now and then and draw it just to keep it limbered up. It's right handed, and no, not for sale. It looks just like the day I bought it, and it's soooo nice and light.

But I'm not sure I would call it a ladies bow. A lefty will be pretty hard to find though. You might look for an old Tammerlane or Polar in a nice light draw weight. Nice smooth, easy to draw bows.
