Default Paints for Kwikfish

I have some Kwikfish that need to be repainted. What kind of paints work the best?

I'm still looking for the answer to this, as well. I got some flourescent lure paints from Cabela's that are NOT the answer.

I havent found anything that sticks as good as luer jensens does but there is paint from cabela like silver hilton said and you can also get paint from a paint store that sells it for making signs. I get house of color paint they have all the flourecent colors.

a buddy of mine uses a 2 part paint he gets here locally that seems to be tuff as nails but its expensive and a pain in the butt you only mix up what your going to use at one time, and any left overs you have to pitch.

I really do not worry about touching mine up I can just paint new ones if I need them and I thik them teeth marks give the kwikies chatachter.

ever notice that the ones that are really chewed up always seem to get hit?

I have found that fingernail polish works as good as anything and is pretty easy to put on. I have caught fish on several lures I have painted with it.

The new FUSION paint in a rattlecan from Krylon works really well.

You can read the mumbo jumbo on the can about how it establishes a molecular (sp?) bond with plastic. I tried it and it works and holds up really well on jet divers. Havn't tried quickfish. For flourecient colors I would try using the Fusion as a primer (like the green base for a fickle pickle) and putting a flourecient color on top.

Whatever paint you use, check it in low light.

I was fishing with a guide friend in the evening last year and looked at the plug rods in the rack. Mine was a K-16 with factory Chartreuse head, his was a Wart with a chartreuse aftermarket head/bill.

The head on the factory plug was "glowing", his was dull and barely visible. In full light they looked identical.

I've used Dick Night lure paint bought at FMS.

Not much light at 30' with 2' vis on a cloudy day.

Besides, it's how they swim anyway. The paint just makes me feel better

SteelieDog,
I have used Testors model paints, sprayed out of an airbrush. It works really well, but spray a clear-coat over the base. It'll hold up much longer.

Try old car paint, may be the ticket I used it on some weird stuff, and it always stuck.

I was a painter for a while and if we were painting smooth surfaces we would ruff them up with sand paper. If it were me I would use a really light sand paper so the new paint has something to adhere too. A step further would be to prime it prior to putting your main paint on. From my experience out of a can Rustolium is more spendy but is the better stuff on the market for a quick primer. I would also use an oil base or a laquer based paint. It holds up much better. Rustolium also makes a clear coat that is pretty tough for small jobs.
