Successfull Elk Hunt x2
Well it took me a week to get the pics back from my dad, but here are the pics from last weeks hunt.

I shot this one with a 12ga remington corelokt ultra slug @170 yards. Complete passthrough double lung shot, hitting a rib on the way in and the way out. She went about 100 yards. As I was waiting in the trees for it to get light enough to shoot, I heard elk behind me. I turned around to see a cow, calf and a spike at about 10 yards. After about five minutes. They smelled me, but must not have seen me. They made a break for the other elk still out in the field, and the spike ran right for me. As I was picturing getting trampled in my head, he saw me and veered off, missing me by about five feet. I still had about 10 mins to wait for legal shooting time, and I thought they were gonna be out of range before I could shoot. Luckily they hung around just long enough. Thats the sun coming up on Adams in the background. Sorry the pictures a little grainy, but we had to lighten it up because the flash didn't go off and our faces were pretty dark.
I took this picture holding up the camera to the binoculars right before they cut over and my dad shot his cow. The bull was a pretty decent 5x5.
My dad shot this one at 143 yards with same gun I used. He hit it a little high, but it busted the shoulder going in and caught the top of both of the lungs. It needed a kill shot but, didn't go 50 yards before it bedded back down. It was the lead cow, and when it layed down, the other elk just stopped and waited for aboout 30 seconds.
Not a trophy hunt buy any means, but it was really great to get out with my dad and have him get an elk. It was the first hunt with the new slug gun, and I couldn't be more pleased. I'm glad I practiced past 100yards with it this summer.
We drew a damage hunt 2nd elk tag in in ag area, but was limited to shotgun or archery due to the farms around. It wasn't like the elk hunting I'm used to. We would just find the fields the elk were in at night and try to intercept them in the mornings heading back to cover. It was almost like I was watching a whitetail hunting show on TV. And once the elk slipped out of the fields, that was it for the day, because all the cover was out of the very small hunt area. Although it wasn't my normal style of hunting it was one of the most memorable hunting trips of my life.

Great pics, thanks for posting them!!
Those elk have been eating well, it seems; even accounting for the winter coat. How fat were they when you peeled the hide off?

Re: Successfull Elk Hunt x2
Yes this was up around BZ corner. And yes they were both very fat. They've been eating a combination of grass, alfalfa, and the dairy farms feed for there cows. I imagine its probably gonna be the best elk I've ever had. Can't wait.

Great job. Love the pictures. The Trout Lake area is a beautiful place to hunt in the late fall.

As a Trout Lake native I'm glad to see people being successful with the new shot gun restrictions. It was getting quite dangerous having so many rifle hunter filling up the valley. Good Job.

Re: Successfull Elk Hunt x2
Wow, I just spent 7 days up there and saw those same elk every day in that field. The 5x5 was gone but there was a 4x4, 3x3, 3 spikes and about 30 cows... Never even heard of the damage control hunt.....
We killed 3 nice bucks though in the last 7 days up in that neck of the woods, a 4x3, a 3x2 and a large 2x2 with a eyeguard. I passed on 3 small 2pts and had a chance at a large 3x3 but he got the best of me....
