Default Composite USCG Cutter?

Interesting article about the new Coast Guard cutters. 147 foot Tupperware boats with a top end of 30kts.

Not at all encouraging. The govt. should hold the contractors responsible instead of us taxpayers paying for the repairs. They had the fox design, build, and run the henhouse.

And the really cool thing is they are warmer and quiter than the metal boats, great for shallow low water.

Why should we pay for something that is broken on delivery?

OK boys & girls
Get out the pencils and start writing those letters to the senators and congress members to let them know this bites
What a total rip off
How can those large companies get away with something like this
Can't the government just not pay the bill??
Sue those thieving*(%^@&( for all they have and put the ones responsible in prison

There is a big push to privatize Goverment functions to reduce goverment and increase efficiency. Stay tuned, this is just the beginning.

Seen this happen too many times. I work for the government and there's always a push to reduce our spending. Seems like everytime we try to save money by privatizing it costs us twice as much and months of lost time. Vendors will just flat out lie about what they will deliver for the price. I don't know why but we let them get away with it every time.

I reject work from Contractors on Government jobs almost every day, they don't 'just get away with it every time'. Deliver goods and services as specified or don't get paid. Really pretty simple as long as the requirements are well defined, a little stickier when the specs are shakey. Not all vendors lie, some do, and you just want to put on latex glove before shaking hands with them.

Outsourceing the work to contractors without direct government oversite and controls is just asking for trouble, sounds like the CG mangers are getting schooled in that area.

Good for you. I haven't seen it happen at my work yet. We just buy their junk and redo to our standards.
