Default Elk Question

This is a wierd request but does anyone have a picture of a 290"+ class 5x5 elk? A guy I work with stated a person he knows shot a 5x5 290" Roosevelt this past season. We're working on getting a picture from this guy but in the mean time I thought I would see if someone had a picture of one they or someone they knew shot. It doesn't even have to be a roosey, just a 5x5 that scores that high.

Thanks in advance.

I seem to remember the B&C web page having a pic of "the largest 5x5" or something to that effect. I think it is in the low 300 class. I will try and find it.

Found it, it was 370. Maybe to big.

290 is not that big. Not that big a deal to get a 5x5 that scores that high.

Check out Kingsoutdoorworld.com,in about 2 minutes I found a few 5x5s that scored well into the 300s. One was even up around 350.

Boy I want to hunt where you hunt. In Washington and probably Oregon public land 290 is a "once in a lifetime" elk.

I had pictures of a 310 class Bull out of the Mt. emily unit a few years ago. Some unfortunate archer stuck it and did not recover it, one of our men found it. It was truely Monsterous!, nowhere on the main beam could I get my hand around!

Will try and dig the pictures up....

There is a big difference between a rocky and rooservelt scoring that much it would be interesting to see the picture.

a 5x5 that scores 290" is not that big???? Geez, to get a 6x6 that scores 300" in Oregon is pretty dang hard on the west side of the mountains and would be considered a really nice bull. I agree with Chesapeake, I want to hunt where you hunt!

Traks44: My guess is like what you're saying. The bull has incredible mass and carries it to the bitter ends on the points. It is the only way I can figure a bull would score that high, minus having long tines but that is a rarity in Oregon.

Go hunt the Little Naches unit (346) We see bulls every year that would score that or more. Getting drawn for the tag is a different matter. I've put in for that tag every year for the last 7-8 years. Even with preference points no luck yet.

I think the only place a 290 roosevelt is possible is Willamette Unit. That is the only longtined roosevelts i know. Post up a pic when you find it i would be intrested to see the bull.

I agree,a 290 to 300 class bull is a GREAT bull, I never said it wasn't. It just seems like the tone of this post is that it could never happen and the guy is full of BS.

This one is close - a 283 5x5. Wish it was me but it's off the website of the highliner MT oufitter that manages Ted Turner's buffalo ranches.

To kill a 290 Roosy period is doing something. You seem to hear about a few of them a year that are that big. My biggest is a 292 Roosy that is a 6x6. A five would be very impressive...

Not the case at all; Sorry if it came off like that. I just wanted to see if anyone else had ever seen a 5x5 290" bull. Like OC12 said, they are out there; they get killed every year and this just happens to be one of those not too hyped bulls from the area.

OC12: weren't you following a bunch of big bulls last spring??? Did you ever get any sheds that would amount to this out of them?

Always a size thing with you guys...... Now Im being dead serious here, me and my hunting partner seen at least 5 bulls this year in that 300+ range during archery season. You wanna hunt where we hunt? Well bring a bike... or a 2 day hike. Why yes, there are roads, but big daddy "W" wont let us drive on em until rifle deer season, and then, just one week later, those bulls mysteriously dissapear. Oh...and all this is within easy sight of houses.
I once had a rifle hunter tell me: I killed a 5x5 bull, gutted it out whole, drug it a mile, threw it on my 4x4 quad, and then upon reaching my truck, threw it in the bed of my truck. And all with a straight face! get a clue

OSULogger,
Yeah, I was on all of those bulls it seemed all spring. Found one set that went just under 300in and another decent five point out of the group. I have a tough time finding elk sheds. Huge area, but they drop somewhere. Here are the sheds i found.

Matt, shouldnt have tied Roseys and Rockies in the same sentence. Arew you trying to get a pic of the one from RRK place you were telling me about a while back? My buddy sent me an email today saying he is sending the pic of his 293" 5x6 Rosey he got this year. He is having trouble sending it from his hime to work to me, so he is sending it from home to me. Wheels dad has the 5x6 that scored 274" from a couple seasons ago and it is one of the nicest 5's I have seen.(just talking about the 5ths and not counting the 6 on one side)

That is not even close to 283. I would believe 250ish. I think I have a picture of a bull that is a monster 5 point with a couple of little ******** to be a 6 point. I will see if I can find it. This bull is right @

Sooslaw,

No, we were told of a bull shot outside of T.L. this year during rifle season that they've been chasing for a few years with a bow (switched to rifle due to moving and thought they might have a better chance). Anyway, they have 2 or 3 sets of sheds from this bull and he was on the decline this year. Look forward to seeing your buddies bull when you finally get the pictures....

OC12: Nice set of sheds, I love the extra tine on the side

Thank you Crayfin! Exactly what I was looking for. I figured the bull had to have strong 3rd's but it appears they can make up for it in mainbeam length and mass.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed. I know this was a wierd thread but I know they exist.

I posted a pic of a 5 point that scored 290 a few years ago from a East side. I cant for the life of me find the pic.

Pretty nice bull, no getting around it. Not what I would call a monster, but a nice bull.

Here is a photo I took of a friends film photo of a friends bull taken in Sadddle Mt last year. It was a second season bull.

I'll try to find out what it scored later today.

Then again there may be someone who knows one of the hunters in the photo.
