Jennie on the issues at hand
Alright, I am finally going to post how I feel about the adult joke thread. This is how I feel, and I will stand for it, on it, and beside it as long as I own ifish.
I have nothing against adult jokes. Well, I am a little more private about them then some....... But out in the boat, as RT can attest, I can do my share of having a good time.
I have noticed, however, that when you give an inch on a public forum like this, it can be taken for miles, and most often downhill.
I have to admit, almost all people stayed within the boundaries, since RT posted the rules and regs up front, but it still seemed innapropriate to me to have on a fishing board. Innapropriate and time consuming for those of us who have to be on delete watch.
Since RT and I personally don't have all the time in the world to edit, read, and delete things that pop up occasionally, my ifish policy is to not even go there!
I can joke around with the best of them, enjoy threads that take a sidewards turn and even join in occasionally when something funny pops into my head. I try, however to keep it questionable, as to my meaning. Take it how you like.
But deliberate thread are not appropriate here on this board. Not only because of the downward turn it can take, but because we, as moderators have to keep a more watchful eye out when threads go that direction.
I want ifish to be a class act, and with all these class act fisher people here, you are pulling it off! Can't always do everything I want within budget constraints, but I can do my best to see that things don't get off topic or out of hand.
So if the rules are set, then you know when you post something questionable that you may be deleted. Then no one will have hurt feelings, right?
I am sorry that some of you were insulted, and frankly, rightly so. It's no fun to have your stuff deleted. Feels like a personal thing, but it is not. RT and I are just doing our best to keep things running smoothly on a limited time schedule.
Great bunch of people here on ifish, and I so appreciate everyones imput, and everyones humor. I feel like I have a great big family here, and that is hard to beat.
As with families, it is hard for me to hear that sometimes you don't agree with me, but in this case I have to stand for what I believe is best for everyone, moderator, admin, and posters alike.
Hope you can sort of understand my point here.. It's been a great journey of learning handling a site like ifish.
And I'm still learning....
So with all of this, I want to take a moment to thank all of you for all of your interesting views, for the help you have offered me in trying to catch those darn steelhead, and for the times I have failed to catch those fish and felt sorry for myself. All I had to do was come here and wallah! You give me more tips, more hope.... and...make me smile!
Jen

Re: Jennie on the issues at hand
Jen and RT your doing a great job and we all have to respect that this is a public bb and kids read what we post. I liked the jokes and have as keen a sense of humor as most. But again it is a public unrestricted site. Your doing a great thing here and anyway I can help out just ask.
Oh jen the storm is here. Let it keep raining!

Re: Jennie on the issues at hand
Thanks for your efforts Jen. With the clarifications laid out today I don't think there will be any probs having some fun joking around within proper guidelines; along with all the great fishing related info and camraderie too. ... BTW, does this mean I can't tell the one about farmer John's pig? JK JK (just kidding)

Re: Jennie on the issues at hand
As always, this is one fine BB. I've been miserable the last couple weeks trying to shake off the lingering effects of the nastiest Flu bug I've ever caught...anyone else get so lucky??? I missed the thread on the jokes, but I guess they were probally fine reading. I'm a father of three and I've never seen anything on this BB that I would not want my children to see, but I have pretty liberal views on most things.
I can respect where the complaints may be valid, but the world is full of shades of gray and you can't please everyone all the time.
Still one awesome BB full of lots of people that I look forward to meeting and we have a couple great leaders in Jennie and RT...My thanks for providing this wonderful place where we can almost be ourselves...within reason.

Re: Jennie on the issues at hand
Ok, I won't be as chipper as responses above. I'll agree and will say this is Jen's board and she has the right to police it as she may. But.....a BB is a popular as the people who frequent it. Put enough blocks up or close enough threads and you lose them. Two of the BB's I used to frequent 5 years ago are totally shut down for same reasons above. They were popular sights and lost all sponsor ship due to lack of hits per day. They were much bigger sights then this and are gone now. They were Seattle chat websites with big BB's and big name sponsors. Only one is still around, but only a mere shell of what it once was.
The only thing I now present to Jen is this, if you are going to have a "fishing" only sight, then fishing posts only. No exceptions. No crab posts (that's shellfishing, not fishing), no presidential debates threads, just fishing and fishing related. It's hypocritical to say yes to one then no to another. This should be a fishing facts site, questions asked and answered, trips traded, reports given.
I'm not a blow sunshine up the butt type person. I deal with customers all day long and have to be kind and can't talk back. UPS has strict policies on rudeness, like none. So, when I'm off work I tell it like it is. I will still frequent this board. I do enjoy topics and the chat going around. I just feel if you want a fishing BB, then run it like it should be. Please don't tell me fishing is a danty sport? I've been fishing over 25 years and never once had a day on the water that was "restrictive". Also, to say this is a "family" site is also a farse. If one's children need to be protected from anything that I've seen on this BB in the past then I'd hate to see what these children will face in the future when they have to face the hard cold world for real.
I know I'll catch flack for this post, but I don't care. I've lived in the real world and have grown up in it. Anyone who's been offended by anything on this BB has been sheltered in some way (except racial slurs, I won't stand for that myself) and needs to grow up themselves. Oh well, I've said my .02.

Re: Jennie on the issues at hand
Come on SH69 tell us how you really feel.
Anyway all this reminds of this farmer who had 3 daughters and this traveling salesman...oh never mind. Keep up the good work Steve and Jen just as you've been doing. It's fun and informative and for crying out loud if we want to talk about crabbing, or clam digging or dropping a pee can in the Nestucca river why not? Which reminds me of this hermit named Dave who kept an old.....well you what I mean

Good work Jen and Steve!!!!!! Don't change a thing. Just because our kids are going to hear or see it somewhere else dosen't mean we have to condon it and let them do it. Keep up the good work and they will come.

Re: Jennie on the issues at hand
Hey RT, O's said that Farmer Johnson's pig is a liar
SH69, tell me more about this sunshine person
I still say it's BS when RT, in the plain sight of everyone, posted the rules to the topic before he posted. That's like suing the film industry if you walk in on your kid watching an R rated movie.

Re: Jennie on the issues at hand
hey'yall, sunshine is a very special person. Whatchit, I'll sick her on you during the float. Hey bigstew, I had to hold back you know, can't let too much out of the bag here. LOL
But seriously, it seems like rules are bent one way, depending on who's reading them and who's posting them. I know I've recieved enough mail from posters on here (no, I won't incriminate anyone since emails are private) but there's alot of turmoil boiling up. It seems, especially with the new post of no advertising that things are really laxed for some. No offense to fuzzybutt and angel but alot of their posts about jigs and such are blatant advertising (I apologize if they are sponsors, I only use the BB on here). Then same goes for Rainbow jigs. It all depends on how you look at it. A plug is a plug (why do you think now adays they even blank out any emblems and sayings on shirts on alot of TV shows, it's free advertisement that won't be allowed).
But what I feel is the most disturbing is that you intrusted RT as a moderator, correct? He started the thread, correct? Well, you should've jumped on him ASAP and shut it down. What you have basically said is that you disagreed with RT's decision of a thread, even followed it up with a similar thread. Yours was going to church instead of a joke. That's what irritates me the most. What I was saying above in my previous post Jen was that it's variety on here, and jokes are part of the variety. I know all about the misc. threads on here, I've partaken in some myself (especially the classic muscle cars) and fealt that if the adult jokes don't belong on here, neither do anything else but fishing. Telling jokes and goofing around is part of fishing (Myself, Os, my friend Steve and Chris's float on the Nooch was one huge hoot after another). My problem is this is supposed to be a "class act" site, but only class act fisherman I know are those snobs who are "elitist flyfisherman". That's only because they have alot of money to spend on top gear and clothing. LOL I'm just a down home guy who's an everyday Joe (hey, wait, I'm an everyday Jerry, sheesh) I have to deliver to Country Clubs, don't want to have a BB that's one too.
Ok, back to the other posts......
