Default Float reel problems!!!

Hey everyone...i have been having the worst problems with my float reel...I keep on getting terrible twisting in my line, and as the day goes on and on my line gets even worse and it totally ruins my day....Now im pretty certain that it is the way I cast that is making my line twist so much....What am I doing wrong that is making my line twist and how do I cast correctly with a float reel?

Thanx for any help guyz...

What kind of reel are you using and how are you casting(sweep, strip,or off the side). How did you load the line on your reel?

If it's a spinning reel I doubt it's the way your casting. Usually line twist is caused by either reeling against the drag, i.e. if a fish is taking out line and your reeling at the same time or the way the line was loaded on the reel. If the line seems to be twisting when you are loading it on the reel take the spool of line and flip it over, that will solve the problem. The line could also be old, if so it needs to be changed.

Try This:If you are using a spinning reel, increase the drag pressure a smidge. For any portion of a revolution that your bail spins and the line does not come in...the twist is taken on by the monofilament.

And This: Make sure your float is in-line and slides freely on the mainline, the depth being set by a stopper. If your float is not symetrical and it is attached securely to the mainline, your retrieve will cause the line to twist.

sorry guyz...should of clarified this before, The reel that keeps giving me problems is the stanton centre pin reel...and the way I cast with it is I peel the line off from the side and cast it like it is a spinning reel with the line peeling off the spool and through my fingers...is this the reason i keep getting line twists?

Thanx for the replies guyz..

Joe without a doubt thats your problem. When you take the line off to cast you are introducing more twists on every cast. You will need to change the way you get line off the reel before you cast.
One of the ways to get the twists out is to let a long line in the current and hold the line between your fingers as you reel it back in. You will have to remove the lure before doing this so the line can unwind easily. Same trick can be used if fishing from a boat, but you will have to be trolling or in a river to do it.

Joe,

I find the same problem if I cast that way all day. I only use those type of casts when there is no room for a sweep. Are you not able to cast the conventional way?

Joe,

I imagine your reel will freespool quite easily so you just let go of your spool draw the rod back and then sweep it forward as you would a regular cast. You use your palm to slow the spool down when your gear is in the air approaching the water. You use your palm like you would your thumb. When playing a fish do you use your free hand as a drag or do you use the fingers on your rod hand?

The key to this cast is to get your reel spinning prior to the forward cast. It takes about a day to learn. I can cast just about as far as with a level wind but I need a bit of room to sweep the cast around. If you need more info do not hesitate to ask.
