What would drug addicts need catalytic converters for?

Catalytic Converters contain the precious metals; platinum, palladium and rhodium. I know that the price of platinum has been going up.

I think you can get $50 on up for them. Definitely a PITA to remove, except maybe on a lifted truck, and that sawzall is going to attract some serious attention. Some desperate folks out there.

If they are worth a dime bag, then a tweeker will steal it, you can take that to the bank.

Question Re: tweekers?

I am just curious, where did the name "Tweekers" come from, does it stand for something or is it just a slang expression ? I know what is meant by the term just wondering how it got started. Is my age showing ?

I think (but don't know) that it is hard to find dime bag in the 2000s. I guess I am glad that I don't know.

Market prices 12/5/06:
Platinum = $1,100-$1,200/troy oz
Palladium = $300-$400/troy oz
Rhodium = $5,000/troy oz

1 troy oz = 0.06857142 pound
