Bugleman if you float the upper river you will need to be good with the oars. In low water that upper stretch can be kinda tough. I have went down with a very good oarsman and we had some tough water just down from the put in. Use caution!

Default Clackamas River?

I am unfamiliar with the entire river. Any one have a suggestion for finding fish. I am a good rower and can read water. I would think that Mc'kiver down would be a good drift for this time of year or is it still to early? Where do you take out?

Thanks,

I've always heard there is something called "The Minefield" below McIver, and the river is pretty low right now.

Carver might be a better put-in for your first attempt. (Takeouts are Riverside Park or Clackamette Park) As for fish - ? ? ? - try to cover a lot of water, they should be throughout the river.

May the fish gods look kindly upon you and grant you silvery gifts!

BEWARE. IF YOU DO DRIFT THE RIVER ON SATURDAY ENSURE THAT IF YOU SEE A HOLE AND WANT TO FISH IT GET THERE. THE LAST COUPLE OF TIMES THAT WE HAVE BEEN OUT THE SLEDS BYPASS US AND STOP AT THE SAME SPOT WE WANTED TO GO.

Years ago I used to fish the upper river with a friend of mine who knew the river just about as good as the back of his hand. Even after the flood he still used to fish it. He is now no longer on this planet and is helping me from below (he always said he was going the wrong way.)

We would put in at FELDHEIMERS, which is just down river from McIver Park. You will see a road sign before you get to the LOOKOUT TAVERN it will be on your left. Or you can put in at the lower boat launch at McIver park. either one is fine. The mine field is above the lower boat launch so you don't need to worry right off the bat.

You will find a change in the river around the old rock quarry. there are a couple of big rollers down there. Fish at all the locations that look like would hold fish.

I would take out at either Barton park which is just before the green bridge on the right. Or you can go all the way down to Carver Boat ramp. That is a good place to take out at. We would take out at Barton but that was because it is easier with a dying man and a gimp.

If you decide to put in at FELDHEIMERS make sure your vehicle is equipted with an incindiary device that goes off if someone tampers with your vehicle. Feldheimer's is known for it's vandalism. If you plan on having someone suttle you, it is a great place to launch.

Good Luck.
