Computer Question
I am using Norton system Works now. My renewal is coming up soon. Is this as good as it gets or is there something better to be had. Thanks.

Re: Computer Question
Renewal for what? The anti-virus part? If that's all it is, I still recommend either AVG Anti-Virus or BitDefender. Both free, both very capable products.

Re: Computer Question
Do what Dave said. Also, Norton is a huge program that really slows your system down.
I've been running AVG for about six months and have no problems.

Re: Computer Question
I have had and continue to have serious problems with both Norton and McAfee.
AVG seems to work well for me.

Re: Computer Question
I use Norton System Works, Norton Anti Virus, and Nortion Internet Security. There is no need to renew Norton System Works but you do want to stay current on Virus Definitions on what ever antivirus software you choose. Norton (Symantec) will allow you to renew the Norton Antivirus Program (sometimes) bundled with Norton System Works without buying a System Works update too.

Re: Computer Question
If by chance you are using Comcast for broadband, you can get Mcafee Antivirus for free as part of the package....

Re: Computer Question
System works has a huge problem absorbing all your computers CPU resources - know problem - I finally dumped it when they wanted to charge for the fix trying Mcafee now - thanks for the info on the comcast part of it

Re: Computer Question
I'm surprised that someone hasn' sued Symantec for false advertising in the product name Norton System Works.

Re: Computer Question
I've had a program called BSafe Online for the past year and I'm very impressed. It does the Antivirus, and Firewall, along with email spam filter. Another useful tool it comes with is an internet content filter. In the past year I haven't had a single incident of my teenage daughter (or myself or wife) coming across r-rated pop-ups, and other garbage inadvertantly accessed online. I haven't noticed that this program impacts my computer's memory load much at all. I used to use Symantec Products, which I got for free thru employer, but now I pay for BSafe and will continue doing so. If I didnt have the family to care for, and if the pop-ups and r-rated junk didn't bother me so much it probably wouldn't be a great big deal though.

If we are talking about the same Bit Defender, its not free. You buy the software, then you renew the antivirus updates with a renewal fee.
My Norton subscription was up so I dumped it and went with Bit Defender. It was $30 for 2 computers and 2 years of virus definition updates.
How could any of them to continue to update the virus definitions for free? Unless the software itself sucks or has some sort of adware hidden in it, they cant.
Anyway, this Bit Defender was rated tops....

Version 8 is free. Go to the evaluation page and select BitDefender 8 Free Edition.
