Default Lower Columbia Springers in April!

Just got back from the ODFW informational meeting held here in St. Helens. Many of the same old 'justifiable' arguements which are quite depressing; Indian %s, gillnets, wildfish issues, etc. But the one flickering bright spot was the possibility of being able to fish in the Columbia into mid April, provided that we partake in a selective fishery, releasing non-clippers. Another option, selective fishery-4 days a week, would take us through the end of April. That is a big deal to us locals. April is prime time in the L.C.

They were quite unresponsive and unmovable when the discussion ran into commercial fishing and Indian fishing.

Actually the biologist said that the netters will be releasing the natives...this drew a loud groan from the crowd as several guys yelled, "Ya, once they're already dead in the nets!"

He said the indians are asking for 13% share this year. I did not understand this number. 13% of all fish, caught fish, of the 2% native limit ???

That would be 13% of the ESA listed species from both the Upper Columbia River stock and the Snake River stock.

It is a known fact that you lower river fishermen take way to many fish. It is to far for us to drive from Portland, we are trying to do are part to save the resources.
I say keep the lower river closed and just open it around the Portland area and only to the Portlanders.

Alright Highwater, I was on the verge of river rage, when I realized it was you...the ol' tyee handliner himself. That poor gal still wants her fish back!

Hey, you don't want to fish for those soft grey spawners up in that polluted Portland air anyway. Come on down to beautiful Columbia County. Fish the edge of the liquerline to the sweet smell of the papermill stacks.

* 'bout time to recharge the battery...I think (72) is calling us!

Your name could not be more appropriate Highwater, cause BOY, you're over your head here. Explain to me why a fishery that has not been allowed by the state for many years would suddenly be a threat to you LAZY Portland boys who are too damn sleepy to get your A$$ out of bed and actually drive to where the fish are? God, I hope your post was a joke, cause it's hard to believe anyone would be that ignorant! Nothing personal though. "Only to the Portlanders" BWAAAAHAAHAAHAAHAA!!!!!
