Default Drug-Eluting Stents

Anyone besides me have one of these installed lately ???

Drug-Eluting Stents ......

I keep reading that they have a higher risk of Sudden Death then the
plain metal ones.

My son has seven of them (at the ripe old age of 40). Mine is the earlier non-drug version.

I doubt that the FDA approved these if they posed a higher risk of death. But now that you mention it, I feel a lot better about the old technology...

There has been much written about the new drug eluding stents. I guess the bottom line is they save your life but you can look forward to taking plavix the rest of your life????? . Plavix is expensive if you don't have insurance and Plavix is not without side effects. Bleeding mostly.

Fortunatly I have taken my Plavix and my aspirin everyday since my Stent was installed, but I guess lots of people don't because they hadn't been informed about the need to. Doctors just assume everyone will do like they are told.

For those of you that haven't had heart problems ( Yet ) I highly recommend you take one aspirin everyday and watch what you eat, Especially Saturated Fat and TransFat. If your Cholesteral is High get started on Statins Quickly. I ignord that advice and now I have to take a whole bunch of Meds the rest of my life and they do have bad side effects that you won't like.

I am ready to retire.

Any financial advisors out there ?

I have 3 stents, one prior to the druged ones and two that are drug coated.
Have a visit scheduled with the Doc next week for a little chat about all this "new" information.
I'll report what I find.
Must admit, it's got me a little shook up.
