Default New ODFW head appointed

I heard todays Oregonian says that Lindsay Ball will the be the interim head for the ODFW. I could not find the article online and havent read the article myself.

Does anybody know anything about him? I know he is the Captain for the OSP,(in the game division I believe)

Any thoughts?

Have seen a new release with a little background on him. You may check the ODFW site if you are really curious. I think he's supposedly a pretty good guy for the job, at least for now. He has some experience with legislative crap, which is what the agency needs right this minute. Long term, probably not the best guy available, but then the best guy might not want the job!!!

I just read the blurb from bill monroe in the oregonian... not much info here but there was one piece of info that may be of interest...

Apparently Bill 49 (the one that gives appointment rights to the gov or the commision) has passed the senate and was sent to the house.. so the commision is halting there search for a new director till they find out if the bill gets defeated or not..

Here is a PR excerpt from ODFW for anyone interested:

Ball, 48, has served as the Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Division Director for OSP since 1993. In addition, he has spent the last seven years as a member of the ODFW's executive leadership team, where he participates in the agency's natural resource management decisions.
The Commission cited Ball's good communication with legislators, his knowledge of Oregon's fish and wildlife issues and his long experience working with ODFW employees as key reasons for making the decision.
"We are in a situation where we need someone who can lead the agency through the legislative process while we begin the search for a permanent director," said Paul McCracken, Commission chair. "Lindsay's experience made him the logical choice to take on the task."
Ball has a Bachelor's Degree in Wildlife Science from Oregon State University and is a 25-plus year veteran of OSP. He worked seasonal positions for OSP in Tillamook, Astoria, Newport, Gilchrist and Summer Lake. His career as a permanent employee of OSP began in Portland in the Patrol Division. Since that time, he has worked in the Fish and Wildlife Division as a field officer, sergeant and lieutenant in John Day, St. Helens, The Dalles and Baker City.
Ball emphasized his understanding of Oregonians and the value they place on healthy fish and wildlife resources. "I have worked all over the state with Oregonians who are concerned about Oregon's fish and wildlife," said Ball. "Oregonians are very passionate about the management of their fish and wildlife resources. I have a good understanding of where they are coming from, and how they want to see the future of their fish and wildlife realized."
Ball also said conservation of Oregon's fish and wildlife resources is his top priority. "I'm a traditionalist when it comes to conservation," said Ball. "I look at conservation as a means to utilize without exploiting fish and wildlife resources. That philosophy has served Oregon well over the years and will continue to do so."
Ball will begin working for ODFW Feb. 16 and is expected to continue as the interim director until the position is filled permanently. The Commission will soon begin a nationwide search for candidates.
