Default Sellwood Springer Caught

Hello All...

Yes, I heard it from the source...A +/- 21 Pounder was caught under the Sellwood Bridge the other day. You will probably read about it in Bill Monroes Column this Thursday.

Time to play Bumper Boats!!

What, another steelhead taken?
Let me guess, no one knows the guy and nobody knows where he had it weighed, right?

When I see a picture and hear from some tackle shop who has witnesses, that is when I will believe that there was a Nookie taken. It was probably just another big Clackamas winter Steelhead. I have pictures of friends with 20+ lbs. winter steelhead that have come from the Clack.

Geez Vic, I know what you mean. When word of the first springer caught there gets out then we have to go get skunked alongside 40 boatloads of foolish guys near the bridge trying to catch the 2nd springer instead of just 20 boatloads of foolish guys . ... Kidding around, but you get what I mean. Actually when Bill Monroe writes in the Oregonian of the first one caught at Sellwood and at Meldrum I have heard that it does bring several more silly guys out there after ONE fish gets caught. One! LOL. That's good though because it takes some pressure off areas that actually have a decent catch rate chance. Just my 2 cents on that . - RT

Fishhead LIGHTEN-UP! It's no secret that springers are caught in late January early February. It's a big sewer, I mean river, you'll have plenty of room!

I recommend everyone get out on the Willamette and tell Fishhead HELLO and thanks for the HOTTAMALE1 tip!

I quit posting on this board because of people like you, and others that give Steve or someone else a rash of ***** for posting accurate up-to-date information. I don't expect people to tell about their secret spot nor their special egg juice, but Sellwood and a hearing are no secrets!

Did you hear that Jennie hooked a Steelhead in the Kilchis? You better hurry and get down there!

If you can't wait, there's a picture of what is supposed to be the first Willamette springer at the local fisherman news site. localfishermannews.com

Yes it is true. My mom is best friends with the wife of the gentleman that caught the fish.

Hey Vic, I don't want anyone to think I was taking sides; especially when there is no huge issue here. My point is that posting about 1 springer getting caught in a well known area is about as benign of a report can get as far as effecting anyones chances at catching a fish. I do agree with your likely position that places that aren't well known and can't absorb much pressure might be best left unreported about some short term success; of a few fish moving thru a smaller river for example. ... And hey, is there a full moon out behind thet clouds in recent days? I've noticed people getting a little more easily aggravated with other's posts without due cause lately. Let's all lighten up and have fun - RT

Spooled...Yes we kicked a$$ today...If we could have only fished a little longer, we could have done even more damage...BUT...I obviously CAN'T tell YOU or ANYONE WHERE we went because it's TOP SECRET. Noone knows about THIS place..

You see, I learned my lesson from Fishead Vic NOT to tell ANYONE about ANYTHING...EVER!No matter how Mundane it is, (Well, Maybe RT and a few select others) Loose lips, sink ships.....That's my new motto.

LOL I know where it is and will be there this weekend. I was planning it before I heard how you guys did today. Save some for me. You can make me one of "the few select others". I will post how I did this weekend in this secret place, just a fair warning to anyone offended by a fishing report.

I know I *issed a bunch of you guys off and I really didnt mean to ! I was only trying to keep things under raps until Bill Monroe said something about it. Heck I knew about this fish on saturday and was told by a friend of mine not to say anything, thats all. Geez I could have been on this board saturday afternoon 1-27-01 saying something, but didnt. As I said before I had no intentions on getting all of you upset and as for hottamale I apologize for saying to much. I hope I can be forgiven. By the way that was a nice fish!! Good luck on the springers....Fishhead Vic

I must be getting too old or something...Years ago...I would spend lotsa time out there to be the first!! I'm just not into it anymore...Think I'll wait 'til there's more than one or two fish in the river....like maybe mid-March.

Thanks Vic, but no big deal at all. I think the comebacks were more teasing than real criticism. .. Hey, this ties into the address I gave . Check it out.

Fishhead Vic,

No Worries...I can understand that your Buddy wanted to make the "announcement" through the Oregonian, that's a Very Cool thing...The First one that is. But, I think this BB is such a great place to post informative, fun and useful information to everyone. Most of the Portland Area Rivers, and streams are unfortunately very tough to keep a "lid on" should there be a good bite, or whatever...you know? You and I probably know the SAME guys who heard about the fish, and maybe we have even fished with OR alongside them!!! Portland is such a Small town sometimes, seems like everyone knows everybody's business.

Anyways, let's try and keep this board as Fun and Open to everyone, even to those guys willing to expose a favorite spot, lure, etc. I kinda think it makes this site "THE" Source for Day-to-Day updates and information.

Oh, and by the way, No Frothing on the Willamette just yet for me either!

I too am not saying that the first fish was caught. I was just saying that after the week before when someone brings in a wild Steelhead saying it was a springer. I'm glad to see someone has caught a springer. That means that Spring is near. I know the ground hog said 6 more weeks, but now the next six weeks we all can do on our heads. I usually don't start fishing for those ellusive springers until after the Sportsman's show next week. After that, there will be no stoping me.
