Default Winter Turkeys

We went up to Leavenworth, Wa. this weekend for their annual Christmas celebration and town lighting. We rented a cabin in Plain, Wa., which is about 15 miles outside Leavenworth. It was really COLD!!

We arrived Friday just before dark, so I took a quick stroll around the cabin and noticed these:

My wife had the weekend itinerary packed pretty tight and I was on a short leash, so looking for turkeys was NOT on Saturday's agenda.

With nothing planned until 10am this morning, I got up early and went for a walk with my new camera. I had no idea where they would be so I just poked around a few old snow roads and before long I heard a few distant yelps. I slipped up to the corner, but I dont think she noticed me fully, so I managed to snap a pretty good picture for being zoomed out there.

That was about all they would let me get away with before running for cover

Even though this weekend was for the family, I still managed to find some resident wildlife to enjoy. It was a great trip and it totally exceeded all of our expectations.

I'm confused. Give me a second....

Yep, this thing in my wallet says I've got until December 31 to kill a turkey.

Season is open NOW!

Yeah true forgot about the fall season. Would like to give that a try. I have to wait until spring however, too busy right now with school, Ducks, and Deer!

This flock is in my driveway. It was the winter before last. I counted over 75 birds.
