What do you guys carry your shells and gear, snacks, etc in when walking to your blind??? Or do most guys just use a bucket so you have something to sit on?????

Re: another stupid duckin Question
I have alway carried a camo back pack. I sprayed it with water repelent and it stays pretty dry. It hold everything I need. Use it bow hunt, duck, and even fishing.

Re: another stupid duckin Question
I use a swivel bucket seat if I'm hunting from a makeshift blind on the beach. If there is an established blind at, like say, a WMA, I carry all my gear in an Avery field bag.

Re: another stupid duckin Question
I have an old 50 caliber Ammo Box that is water tight (until it gets wet).
I also have a dry bag that I keep my camera in.
I usually do not eat in the field, because Alex will take it all.

Re: another stupid duckin Question
I usually just Load the pockets up in my jacket. THat way I don't have to fuss with bags and ammo boxes. I put everything i possibly can in my jacket or wader. Headlights, gatorade, snacks, shells, and calls. I dont know just my preference especially when hunting a place like Sauvie where you might have a big hike to get to the blind.

Re: another stupid duckin Question
I think it was Jansport who came out with a day back called the "sole survivor". It is identical to a normal day pack except it has a rubber "sole" that allows it to be put on wet/damp ground without water soaking in. I have not seen any other than mine for years.

Re: another stupid duckin Question
Mike I would definitely recommend a decent blind bag.
My first time out, I didn't have a bag
I had some food in the white plastic bags from the store.
Eventhough it was a nice sunny day, the action of moving into and out of the boat to retrieve ducks or get food got the contents of the bag wet.
A second reason for the bag, if you ever hunt some of the island in the Lower Columbia, or someway else where you standing in water. A decent bag which you can just hang or hook to a limb as it sits on the water is a nice to have for ammo, or layer of clothes like a sweater you want to keep dry. Concerning a decent bag, I would look for one which has some type of flap which covers the zipper.
I have one in which the zipper is exposed and believe me, in a decent downpour some water will get in.

Re: another stupid duckin Question
Cabela's sells a blind bag that is also a dry bag. You can't beat a camo bag that is also a dry bag. They rock. I think they're called "waterfoul" bags. Spelling error on purpose.

Re: another stupid duckin Question
I have a sack that I bought from Cabela's made by Avery last year that works great. It has a waterproof main compartment and an external pocket for other things that aren't affected by moisture. It sits on your side with one shoulder strap, so it makes it possible to carry a bag of dekes on your back at the same time. Last time I check they sell a DU version at Sportsman's for around $17. Heck of a deal and well worth the money.

Re: another stupid duckin Question
I'm not a bucket seat kinda guy. Just another thing to lug around....great for boat in hunts though, so still good to have to keep shells dry and such. Sportsmans Warehouse used to sell a square bucket seat. sq. is nice for boat space concerns and they tend to stay on decoy carts easier.
Me? mud/backpack/blind bag camo'd. MTM plastic shotshell boxes. I usually put it in my decoy bag w/ my folding 3-legged stool. If I boat in I take a couple folding camp chairs...a little taller that the 3-legged stool.
Mike, your gerber hatchet is a must have for constructing blinds. And a long old kitchen knife for cutting grass to spruce the blind up.
For S.I. walk in hunts, weight of all this junk is a concern. Everything must be light...cuz we gotta carry it or cart it in&out. Drill the keels of the dekes drop the sand out, pencil lead anchors on tangle free cord....anything to shed a few pounds so we can carry MORE dekes. I know your a strong guy, but toss a 100lb decoy bag on your back and you'll soon know why weight is important.
I love my boat! Get yours out.....I'll help ya roll some OD green over that purty paint.

Re: another stupid duckin Question
I hunted with a camo backpack for a long time....until I saw Ogrejager pull *dry* clothes out of his blind bag after a drenching day of rain and wind. My backpack would succumb to the rain after a while and all contents would get wet. I had to start packing stuff in ziplock bags.
I now have the same cabelas blind bag (see his post above). It survived a very nasty day at SI with all contents as dry as can be!
