Default Goose decoy question

Just getting into goose hunting and was wondering what are the reasonably priced and good decoys that I should get. Also do the silouettes work. Thanks for any imformation.

Silhouettes work OK but you have to place them properly. I'd go with full bodies, any manufacturers full bodies would be good but the two I'm most familiar with are Bigfoot and Greenhead Gear. Expect to pay anywhere from 100 to 150 dollars per 6. Or check ebay or the classifieds of ifish.

I would not recommend silouettes, valley geese are just too smart. If you have the money to spend, you can't beat the DSD's, but they are pricey. If you are on a bit of a budget, check out the GHG Pro Series Lesser's. They are a quality decoy for quite a bit less money.

I agree. Get the best Fullbody you can afford. And in my opinion stick with the Lesser size decoys here in the valley. Seems like the small geese tend to shy away from big decoys. You dont need huge numbers either. ( if they are nice decoys) We kill a lot of geese over 18-20 decoys.
PM me if you have questions.
Good luck

if you are on a budget i would say the GreenHead Gear Lessors are your best bet. one brand i would stay away from is the final approach goose decoys. I have only heard bad things about them. If you want to spend a bit extra the ffd lessors by Greenhead Gear are also another good choice

I hunt with Riversledder.

We started a few years ago with a mixed bag of shells and Silos, We sucked!!

If given the choice I would set up in a field with a dozen Dave Smiths over a thousand silos or shells or whatever!

No I dont work for Dave Smith, they work for me!!

Really, our geese herte will have seen lots of decoys by third season. You have to do everything well. Hide well, call well, and simulate geese well!!

If you hunt the valley, DSDs work better than anything else. Others will work, none as well.

I pick this one . Don't even consider silly's or Bigfoots or shells or that other crap. Occaisionally people shoot geese over them but DSD is the answer.

Just keep telling yourself "Quality over Quantity, quality over quantity, quality over quantity, quality over quantity".

DSD's all the way... We mix DSD's and Hardcores although i am down to just using the feeders on the Hardcores and we mix 3 doz in with 7 doz DSD's so most of the time we just use the DSD's....
One thing people are not mentioning is ability to hold geese.
DSD's all the way..

BTW, the only reason I have any hardcores is that they were free....

I'm with 101. Rag decoys and black wood blocks work best for these stupid valley geese.lol
