Default Any P.C. Dory Fisherman on IFISH ?

If so I thought I would inform you ( if you did not already know ) that THE BEACH IS GONE! I had not been over there in a while until yesterday and was quite surprised to see water clear up to the beach grass with a 15' cliff.

I sure hope it fills in by spring.

I fish down there every July with some friends of mine. The captain goes by the nick name TIKI DAVE, he has a cabin there on the road between PC and Woods. Whats the boat ramp down to the beach look like? Are the waves up to the parking lot yet? I also fish at the boat ramp on the Nestuca for chinnoks in the fall. Welcome to ifish talk to you later.........Fishhead Vic

The waves are right at the base of the concrete ramp at high tide. There is literally no where to park on the beach let alone to land a boat.

Marty,

I have been contemplating doing some modifications to my sled trailer to enable me to launch off the beach. If you are real brave I will let you come along the first time.

Seriously if the beach does not come back it is going to be a low tide only show.

A few of the concerns I have heard from Dorymen are; fear of tourist complaining about them warming up their engines at 5am., Beach already dangerously overcrowded for boat landing. I don't own Dory at this time. I am afraid they will be forced out before long.

Great White

A friend of mine owns the 3 story house with the blue metal roof right behind the boat launch on the Nestucca. I've always wanted to fish down in that stretch, but I've always gotten the impression that the locals don't care too much for "out of towners" fishing their water so I've stayed away.

Any chance of hooking up with you to learn that area this spring or fall? I'd be happy to bring my boat, 16' Alumaweld Sea Dory sled. Just big enough for a couple fishermen and 4 big chinook.

My email address is in my ifish profile.

Sorry to read of this disappearing beach.
In the summers of early 70's I commercial fished (hand-crank, hook and line) with my uncle out of PC in an 18ft dory. I have some good memories of early mornings in the donut shop, enjoying breakfast and hot coffee and telling and listening to the fish lies. Just before first light launching in the surf and trolling along the rips with green hootchies behind a dodger that would usually result in returning with more silvers and Chinook than would fit in the fish box. Even though these were the times when the resource seemed never-ending, I remember my uncle saying,
"this just isn't as good as the good old days".

From what I understand (I receive all of my information from the in-laws), the developers approached the Dory association with a proposed agreement regarding the following:
noise (big concern)
number of boats/trailers at any certain time on the beach
direct access to the beach

The Dory association didn't do anything with the proposal. The developers are clearly out of line if they want to limit the use of the beach and thus control the use by the dory fleet. I also find it interesting that the developers have no plan for their customer parking. Their proposed lot will only hold less than 30 vehicles. So, they plan for the over-flow to use the PUBLIC lot next to the pub. I, along with money others, find this very disturbing because that lot was DONATED to the public primarily for the use of the dory fleet. Not the pub (most pub employees and patrons use this lot.)

You're right in saying that big $ wins. But in this case, the developers have been out of line from the get go.

When the hotel is complete (and it will happen), I hope every dory fisherman uses a pickup/4X4 with no muffler - most don't have one anyway!

Another great example of poor planning on the Oregon Coast

Eastside Dave, It sounds like you have all the info correct and I could not agree with you more!! I just wish that we could do something about it.

WMB, I know some of the crowd can be hostile but I am not sure it's any more the locals than the out of towners. Some people just lack manners. Check your Email.

GWH, In the fall you had better wear a helmet. This is the place where the term COMBAT fishing got its name. Elbow to elbow and don't leave your spot even for a minute to take a leek, or someone will be there when you get back!!! I know this because it happened to me last fall at the boat ramp hole. I still hooked into more fish than the guy who took my spot. Just a warning to anyone who's inexperienced at COMBAT fishing.....Fishhead Vic

Great White - which house is yours? My in-laws own a home above the pub off of Terrace View. Are you up there too?

I'm curious as to what your thoughts along with other dory guys are on the new hotel going in across from the pub. I think it is a total sham. Since there isn't any beach right now, maybe a few good waves will hit that bench pretty hard they are planning to build on. We'll see.
