Sturgeon Report
Fished the Cloumbia today from 6am-3pm all around St. Helens, had a few bites, landed one 38". Saw a few caught the over all report was that it sucked. Talked to a fish cop who said they were killing them around Trojan and we were having the same luck as everyone else around St. Helens, by that time it was too late for us to go that far. We had good smelt and moved around I guess they just wern't biteing where we were.

Re: Sturgeon Report
Hey Dustin, I wish I'd known about the Trojan bite last night because I answered a question about sturgeon fishing and suggested they try the Kelly Pt. to Frenchmen's Bar area. I hope they got into some fish. It's a lot like salmon fishing only once a week, there is a bit of guessing and luck involved in finding the fish. - RT

Re: Sturgeon Report
Hay R.T. Tried Frenchmans bar Oregon side and the end of Hayden Island. Lots of boats, heard of one shaker landed. A Tug came by and announced over his hailer that night there was a 300 Ft. net was across the end of the island all night long

Re: Sturgeon Report
Hey RT
MY neighbor went to Trojan today and did hoooorible. All the guys there did hOOOrible. I suggested he try the area off the rock on the oregon side bummer I gave him a bum steer last week it was killer he said most of the guys did not even get bit. The gill netters were there yesterday, said the local fish cop. they must have cleanned the whole area out including all the shakers(you know gill netters can take anything they want)...joke well it seems that way sometimes they look for the sport fishers hot spots and gillnet the he#@ out if them.

Re: Sturgeon Report
Also went to St. Helens today. My buddy wanted to run his boat with a new prop, so we headed up the Multnomah Channel and fished. Just as the rest of the reports, it generally sucked! No real bites, no fish caught. Three guys coming in behind us in a camoflauge boat also had the same luck, didn't say whether they were in the channel or out in the Columbia. Suggestion (at least for 3-4 days), stay at home and tie up rigs or polish the boat. Not worth the gas to go out, at least not in St.Helens area.

Re: Sturgeon Report
I'll add my report. Fished Kelly Point, actually just below the Willamette. Yes the fishing sucked! We had one bite and landed a 42 incher! That was the only bite in 5 hours of fishing for three rods. So much for a hot bite.....saw no other fish caught.
Sometimes its better to be lucky than good.

Re: Sturgeon Report
Has anyone asked Steve King at ODF&W how close to the quota the Welfare Gilnetters are ?
Considering that the fishing was GREAT for Winter fishing before the season I would think they must be close.
I won't be near a phone for a few days or I would call.
I believe their season ends Feb. 9
I don't think I will spend any time looking for Sturgeon until then.
What was the surface temp today on the Columbia ?

Re: Sturgeon Report
Yeah when Slutgodess moved in our bite stoped. (HA HA HA) Great job Bill, I hope everyone that was with you had a great time. What a beautiful day out on the river, fish or no fish. And the spouses wonder why we get up so early to go fishing. Not to get there before everyone else, To enjoy the beautiful sunrises over the Mt's. and the reflection of the sun off Mt St. Helen's.
Even though I didn't get a keeper, I still rate the day a 9.5
