Aluminum welding... I need a step on the back of my boat
I used to have a Yea,Hooo boat. It was really easy for the family to get into it during the summer with the ladder. The weldcraft is now 1 year old and I need to make it easier to get in it from the water.
I need somebody to weld up a step. hinged simular to the Duckworth and tack it to the top tube on the pump guard. If their are any i-fisher that can help me for a fee let me know. I thought this might be the right place to check because most of you are around boats and might know what I vision. I have tryed a few custom fab places and they can not vision what I need.
This will make Mrs. Jet very happy, we all need to keep the Mrs. happy.

Maxweld Boats in Hebo, Or. would be a great place to contact. I have had Andy do a few small jobs and he is excellent as well as reasonably priced.

Re: Aluminum welding... I need a step on the back of my boat
Thanks rippin, I have talked to Mark at Motion. Mark is sooooo proud of most everything he builds. It is not cost effective to use him, He does great work but too rich for my blood.
I have a buddy that had a Maxweld built several years ago, boy do they build a tank. I think I will give Maxweld a call, thanks guys! I knew I could get what I need here. I am still open to ideas...More??

Re: Aluminum welding... I need a step on the back of my boat
what i have done more than once is to make somthing i want out of 1" pvc plumbing pipe, buy a 10 foot length for a few bucks, cut it up and tape it together until you get what you want then take it to a shop and say make this out of aluminum, any good fabrication shop should have no problem.

You might contact Van Weld. They are in North Plains I think. It would be close to you and they used to make/repair alumium boats.

Fishbait that is a grat idea I will call them. I aso like the idea of taking a class, that way in the future when there is another special project I can do it myself or when a ifisher calls for help I can help.
I like that!

Re: Aluminum welding... I need a step on the back of my boat
The best welder (alum or other) that I know posts on this bb as "gooey bob". I'm not sure if he has the time as he stays busy building and repairing race cars and running a differential repair business among other activities but it might be worth e-mailing the guy. If you are interested, send me a note and I will forward.

Re: Aluminum welding... I need a step on the back of my boat
Richard North in Astoria does outstanding work. He did an excellent job on a custom fuel tank and a radar mast for me. He builds aluminum boats and boat accessories. At least some of the potty barges that the state has put on some lakes were built by him.

Re: Aluminum welding... I need a step on the back of my boat
Jet, if you take the class, take the TIG class. Thats were you get the beautiful welds. MIG is more for quick production jobs, and don't look as nice. I think PCC just open a brand new welding building in SE Portland. There are a couple of different options I think. There is a fabrication class, were you can bring your own project and then there is just the welding class. You can rent the TIG welder by the day or week at Iron Teck on Powell.

Take a class at PCC and make your own? Its pretty fun. Class is pretty cheap and you can get all the aluminum at pacific metals under the Ross island bridge.

Re: Aluminum welding... I need a step on the back of my boat
There is a metal product manufacturer in SE Portland off of Johnson Creek Blvd. His company name is Wright Manufacturing, the owner is Tye Wright. He fabricates and does welding and repair on Aluminum boats and boat trailers. Tell him the Whitewater Boaters of Oregon sent you over. He owns a Duckworth and knows exactly what you are looking for. his address is 7474 SE Johnson Creek Blvd. Portland (503)774-9689

Re: Aluminum welding... I need a step on the back of my boat
Maxweld boats??? I own a Maxweld and yes they are a tank. Andy's work is superior! My experience with him for repair however is not good. I had a little accident and caused some damage to the right side of my boat. No holes or anything just dents and a slight crease. What I should think simple for him. Pound out the dents and apply a decal to hide the dammage. It seems he is far to busy to help me. He no longer fabs sport boats; just large commercial cats (gorgious by the way) and can't be botherd with customer support of a two year old boat!
Motion Marine????
Spendy YES! 2500.00 to repair my damage. Too rich for my blood also.... the dents are still there. Thankfully the fish dont care.
I also need some repair work done on my welded galvinized trailer. It is a Maxweld trailer. Any Ideas?

Re: Aluminum welding... I need a step on the back of my boat
Jet,
Sounds like I may have given you some bad info.
I can weld a little and would like to practice so I can put a step on the back of my North River. Maybe you could let me practice on yours.

Re: Aluminum welding... I need a step on the back of my boat
Jet,
I just happen to work with a darn fine welder.
If you can sketch something up I'll ask him what he thinks it'll take then haggle him down till it only costs ya a couple of beers and materials.
Give me a call,
Mr. F

Re: Aluminum welding... I need a step on the back of my boat
Thanks Mr. Fisherman
I will give you a call and draw something up. Maybe this friday if we get out you can look at the spot where I want to put the step and you can help describe my needs.
Fish chaser, I will also call the duck guy maybe he has made steps in the past and can whip something out. The Maxweld guy used to be small time, he may be small time once again. We all remember good new and bad news just like elephants.
I just love all help on this board... can you feel the love... can you?
