i think the new 4 stroke motors are hard to beat, fuel saving is a main point too and the thing will last forever and is quiet, i personaly would go with the four stroke and not look back...

Go with the 4-stroke, whatever you are looking at. The 2006 EPA B$ is just around the corner. I have an 18.5 foot Crestliner with a 115 Evinrude that's super, but I'm really looking hard at the 4-strokes. If someone would just come out with a 150HP I'd grab onto it.

Which one? Do yourself a favor and get all you can afford. A 17 footer will get along with a 90 or 115 real well. Don't blow your money on a lower horsepower motor, they are already expensive and if you pick the 60 or 70, within a week I can almost guarantee you won't be happy! There's no substitute for horsepower! If the boat is rated for it, I'd personally go for the 130 Honda. Otherwise, the door's open for 115's.

TM is right. You can never have too much HP. NEVER!!!!!

As for mixing fuel, who does that? All the new 2-strokes have oil injection. Personally, I like the 2-strokes, much better hole shot. If I'm spending that kind of money on a 4-stroke, it better be at least 350 cubic inches and squirtin' a stream of water!

Default OB motor dilemma...

I'm in the process of buying a new boat,17' Smoker Craft Stealth. My problem, I can't decide between the Merc 60hp 4-stroke and the 75hp 2-stroke. I'm aware of the common arguments, weight/fuel economy/smoke/noise. The price of the 4-stroker is roughly $1000.00 more. Apparently the 60 is new this year from Merc.

I'm hoping some of you kind folks may have some experience with these motors with any points I may have missed.

Thanx in advance for your input!
