If you've got a boat, and don't mind the crowds, the Trojan hole is sometimes a good bet. The closest put in is a Goble docks - midway between St. Helens and Rainier.

I dont have a boat and even though i have lived on the river for about 15+ years have never fished for sturgeon from a boat just from the bank (im only 22 so that sounds worse than it is), but i do know where the hot spots are just by watching people in my backyard everyday. From the St. Helens marina go downstream to Colmbia City. If you are unfamiliar with the area its about 2 miles from the docks. Look for a big house right on the water that is on a bunch of cement pillars. From that house down to the water tower is where most of the action is. The chanell is real close to shore right there and it drops off real quick. I saw a gillnetter pull in a 4.5 footer right in front of that house this evening. Most boats anchor not too far off shore but be careful not to get in the chanell or you will get run over by the freighters. Also the gillnetters have been hitting it pretty heavy lately watch out for there nets. Do you have any extra room in your boat? would love to go out on the river for the first time one of these days. Let me know how you do. email me if you want some more info.

Ok Jeremy, We'll swap. We'll have a need to know where your spot is since we'll be providing transportation. You'll have a need to know all about death from above since you'll be fishing in the 'Pilar'. Sound like a deal? It's all about 'need to know'.

The bend is your friend!
