Default Decision on Satsop Float Trip

I posted a thread on other BB. I was curious how long of float everyone wanted to do on the 10th? Are we all gonna drift from Schafer down to the Highway pullout? It's a long drift, but I love them long drifts. You up for it Os? Or shall we shorten it? I'm ticked they closed down that launch at the S turn, I heard they were gonna do it. It sucks, my Dad and I always cleaned up trash and now it's closed to everyone. Well, how are we gonna do this? Are we going to do one big launch or have some launch at Cook Creek and some at Schafer? I want to do the long float. I have full day available so I'm gonna use it all. We should try to finalize some plans. Only a couple weeks to go.

Kris, the float originator, suggeats we meet at the Hwy. take out. I assume that's the one by the main Hwy. Bridge to Montesano? Then depending how many show up, he suggested that half go up to Cook Cr. put in and half to Schafer put in. I will volunteer our boat to put in at Schafer. - RT

Thats the plan,
depending on flow rates a few of the drift boats might have to push getting down to the curves, other wise should lots of room, since once they see all of us,I'm sure we'll have the river all to our selves ...Os

We will if I have anything to say about it

I second that idea RT. When I was up there last, it didn't look like pushing would be in order, even if the water levels went back down.

I hope you guys understand that it is about 13 miles from schaffer to the highway, I suggest schaffer to the west fork or schaffer to cook creek twice, I do that all the time, gives you a second chance at fish after the morning blitzkrieg.

All a moot point now. While fishing with Super yesterday, along with Jerry Shipe, I cooked up some ideas that will leave you guys too gut spent to be able to row or even cast . Jerry is going to bring up a boatcrew too. Gonna big fun!

Hey Superfly, I'm used to making long floats. Actually, my Dad and I would put in at the S turn and float to the mouth (would have our rigs sitting at the Chehalis boat launch). I love long floats. So 13 miles is no biggie. Just have to make sure we get a good and early start on the river. I remember one float, was late October, dropped in at S turns and planned on pulling out at the highway bridge. Kinda lost track of time and was catching alot of fish. Well, next thing we knew we were a good 3 miles from the takeout and lost all light. Was kinda interesting floating those last couple miles in the pitch dark. I'm up for long float, how bout you Os?

well this is kinda what I was thinking. we all hook up at the hwy launch at 6 or so. we will then go to the put in of our choice. I figure the Cats wouldn't mind going to the top and putting in while some of us drifters might not want to if the water is low. so we might put in around Cook creek. I don't really like fishing fast. I kinda like to stop and fish then pull up and go to the next spot. I don't know where I will take out yet but that don't matter. some might want to make 2 short floats or something. we can all hook back up at the hwy at the end of the day. I'm sure we will all see aech other during the dayand this way we will all still be spred out just a bit.

One other note. If you wanna go from the hwy to the Chehalis then think again and bring a saw. just below the hwy there is 5 sweepers that you won't get through. one guy already lost it all but his life and almost that earlyer this year.

so we will put it like this. Saturday Feb. 10th we all hook up at 6:00 a.m and shoot the bull for a few and then we go like mad all day and hook back up at the hwy around 6:00 p.m.

later

I fished the upper end of the satsop yesterday, so if conditions are nearly the same I say we do cook creek to the highway, that way there is enough water for everyone to beat on, also I know R.T would like to set up a plug pulling bonanza and from cook down would be better for that. Alsio R.T if you want to do that I got the meds for that. also got them damn good eggs from sexton.

Right now, I'm thinking the fish are going to feel REAL comfortable with this motley crew coming after them. I figure Os and Jeff will have me laughing too ahrd all day to be much of a threat, and if I'm not catching fish, I'm not ABOUT to let them get anything into the boat. hey 'yall will probably pull over to visit the goats up by Satko Glen, RT will be driving golf shots off superfly's bow, and superfly will be too busy dodging that 3-wood to get a decent cast in. Os will then put a hole in steelheader69's cat tubes with a spoon after s-69 "corks" Os in the carbody hole. I'm sure the fish will survive the onslaught, the only question is, will we?!?

This should be fun..........

Fish on..........

If Os pops my cat, he's gonna have one heavily loaded Wing. Heyyall, the beehive is a restaurant in Montesano. It's a great little place I normally hit on my way home from fishing the Nooch. Yeah, we'll have one helluva motley crew coming down the Satsop. I'm sure the fish will be laughing at our antics. Well, I'm not sure how much fishing I'll be doing, probably more of a guide service for my girlfriend, her Dad, and my friend Steve that Jax met on our float on the Nooch. (BTW Jax, the Nooch almost blew out from that nights rain, so you didn't miss much on that last float of mine. Went from 1100 to 2300 overnight.)

Let's get this thing going. I've loaded up my Pips, got my plugs tuned, and am loading my onboard tackle boxes. Now if only I could only find my little Taz spincast rod and my Mickey Mouse bobbers and I'll be set.

Hey Dan, thanks for reminding me about the golf idea! When I fished with Dan, Os, and Jeff on the fishless 10,000 cfs Cowlitz in Dec. I brought a golf mat, large sack full of old golf balls, and some clubs. We hit balls off the front bow of my sled at targets, then hit some 3 wood shots from some grassy bank spot a couple hundred yards from the bankies at Blue Creek .... right at them . .... Not. But to the other side of the river. We then retrieved almost every ball we hit; to take home and hit another day . On second thought, that's not such a good idea. Especially for this float!

Don't bring the camcorder. O's may want to run for office one day Plus he thinks that cow he was milking was a female. Be really scary for the taxpayers to know where their money was going.....and it surely wouldn't be Wal-Mart. Plus people would get tired of answering your question, "who's your daddy"

Oh ya, like Os I don't land troll anymore, but I can be there to give you "Novices" a few tips on trolling from an ol'pro. Put a reserved sign on your best mattress for my bad back Joe; especially if I am gonna row you around the next morning . And before you even ask Os, NO you can't sleep next to me.

Hey, guys, I'll be down there. I'll probably bring Parker so we can meet all you crazy steelheaders. I am looking forward to meeting RT, not to sound like a brown-noser, but I really admire him. I don't look up to sports heros, movie stars, race car drivers, I could care less. I would rather look up to the great fisherman out there like RT, Herzog, and the like. And that ain't no s***!

I am also a master at trolling, I prefer to catch and release most of the time now as I just broke up with my girlfriend of five years Not looking to fill my freezer again anytime soon but I will troll and hogline as necessary until then

Looks like yall got some daugthers, eh? Just kidding. I'll be down that way and hopefully I will get some sleep the night before. We can even have a pre-fishing derby the night before for the best, the worst, and the biggest

Well it sounds like the posse is growing for friday night, hey osprey, I will sign your permission slip for friday night if necessary and Hey yall I know someone who can get that house arrest bracelet off of your ankle so you can join us. The only thing is there is no wall mart in Oly, so I hope you won't feel out of place. As to Jeff head, I know he lives in Oly as well, but he has been somewhat quiet onm this thing lately. As for Justin and the 206 er's they should do allright, they will be the new boys in town for the night, as for Me and R.T we will just have lots of laughs, My girlfriend lives in town as well so I must behave, I at least have to be in a different county, if you know what I mean.

Yes Fly,
I have been real quiet on this one. Used to be one of the big dogs and runnin' all of the time. Ever since my close encounter with the ugly guy in the funny blue polyester suit and the mean face with the long black robe behind the bench I have been a porch puppy!!! Looking forward to meeting Justin, Parker, SH 69 and all of the people who I haven't met and fished with yet. I'll save the introductions for Saturday on the river, I hope to get to know them then. You guys terrorize the town for me, I'll be thinkin' about ya. See you guys Saturday morning.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff

Nope, I wasn't blessed with a seester

Doh, O's I just realized your daughter is not old enough to go out Bummer. But I bet that makes you breathe easier at night. Especially knowing that I am out and about.

I've been to Thekla before, Fly...now If only I can remember how to get there from Wal-Mart. How many minutes away is that? Just don't get me to dance I'll birddog 'em up though.

Lookin' forward to meeting everyone, not meating. Bring your beer goggles boys.

Nope no trailer but I'm scrimpin' (that's not ebonics for shrimping) and saving for one though. If only I can remember where I buried the mason jar so I can make a deposit.

Beds? What's that? Like fishing beds? Get your own chickens and pigs you perverts. You think you can come up here and get with mine since you're out of town. Like the chickens and pigs at your place won't smell them on you. Wait, that's O's. Nevermind

hey_yall, look forward to meeting you, I like your sense of humor. I'll have to buy ya a beer, or two, or three, for puttin' up with all this ruckus. If we go out prospecting the night before the float, then I'll be sure to bring you a pair of fresh coveralls (with no holes ) and a nice and purdy new straw hat for ya!

Yeeeeehhhaaaawww!!

P.S. Don't worry about havin' to keep a close eye on yer pigs 'n' chickens, I'm a sheep-lovin' feller myself!

And 'Yall, that TV commercial you're slated to do - eatin' those "3 Little Pigs in a Blanket" for IHOP - should make enough for a 2nd dirt jar stash for ya Sounds like Furday night's gonna be purdy fun

It's a first annual something! I hesitate to put Ifish's name to it; at least until after it's over to access the success, or damage . - RT

Too busy laughing to reply right now..have to collect my senses. Apparently I lost my sense of smell, otherwise I would have smelled that I just soiled myself from reading that

Sorry, O's, looks like Parker won't be coming down until the next morning. I planned on bunkin' at Super's house, but come to think of it, you have a daughter so maybe I should stay there with her, uh, I mean you. After all, if it works out, then you'd have a son-in-law to fish with all the time who also owns the Sauk River Steelhead Ranch. I could give you Parker's position as president which includes trailer and outhouse

Soooooooo?

My My My!!!! This float is starting to sound like something more out of Deliverence. I'm kinda scared now. I guess I'll be first one off the launch. I'm too afraid of what I may run into if I'm last one on the water. I can just imagine coming around a bend in the river and hearing hey'all saying "Let me hear you squel cityboy.". Not a thing I want to see. LOL I will make sure I have my redneck repellent on board (I always keep a bar of soap handy) and will be on pucker mode all day.
Hey Os, sheesh, you got your hands full all the way around. You have to keep the vulchers off your daughter, and maybe even off yourself. LOL
Well, I'm all ready for Saturday. Have rigs tied up, tackle stored, and redneck repellent doubled up.
Jerry
PS, I can't find my mickeymouse bobbers, anyone know where to find any?

Sorry, but O's daughter is spoken for

Out of my league?..lol oh you crack me up, but the chicks that are out of my league are totally worth the fight. Oh, I'm sure you'll hear some dueling banjos in the boat on Saturday, if not, I think I got some Hank Williams, Jr. lyrics stored up in memory, but I'm a lil rusty, so I'll have to brush up before hand. Soap is not repellent, we luvs a good smellin' sweetie I'll give you new meaning to "Irish Spring"..muh ha ha ha I figgered da repellent would be dem thangs dey call books. I heard deys wuz da devil. So ya want to be first do ya? I guess you want to go ahead and get it over with do ya cityboy? Now O's, everyone will know that piggy and chicken are just pet names for your left and right hands

Hey Ya'll, sorry. I forgot that hillbillys hate soap and rednecks hate books. Sorry again. I'll have a copy of war and peace strapped to my butt to sway you away from me. That should keep me safe until it gets waterlogged and loses it's effectiveness.

Ok, seriously though, I'm pumped and ready to go. Won't be involved in any of the Friday night activities, but will be there Saturday at 6am sharp.
