My 16 year old nephew is just getting introduced to hunting, and boy howdy he's going to have a hard time bettering his first score!
Our family has archery hunted for many years, and my Dad makes sure to introduce all his sons and grandsons to the sport of archery hunting.
He's taken my Nephew Andy on a few elk hunts, some pheasant hunts and such, and now it was time for a trip to eastern Washington for some late Whitetail hunting.
Andy had a pretty good season so far, he'd seen several deer and even missed a few. He was finding out that it was a challenge to shoot a deer with a bow. While hunting my dad had him set up in a ground blind since he was reluctant to get up in a tree stand, but he found even when they got close there was a lot of brush in the way.
He said, "Grampa, there's always too much brush in the way". Grampa set him up in a ladder stand and he was a little more comfortable with that.
Well on the evening of the last day of the hunt they gave it one last go. Andy spotted some does coming in and he got ready. He watched the does feed and it wasn't long when he saw the big buck come in. It chased the does around and Andy moved to get his bow in position. One of the does caught him and went on alert! This casued the buck to walk off but Andy was a regular pro. He waited until it's head was behind a tree and drew back....as it came out on the other side of the tree he whistled and the buck stopped. He let er fly!!!!!!!
30 yds down range the arrow smoked right through the boiler room! It entered behind the shoulder, through the heart, and into the offside shoulder.
The deer ran off in the direction of Grampa waiting in his tree stand. When grampa saw the buck coming he got his bow with the intent to show the young lad how to harvest a trophy Whitetail. To his amazement the deer collapsed in front of him before Grampa could even draw his bow! Next thing he hears Andy "Grampa, I just shot one"!
I think he'll be hooked now!
