Default What are your 2004 fishing goals?

We all have our most enjoyable fishng stories to live on and share with our loved ones and offspring. If we're lucky, we also have photos to back them up. And as we accumulate both of the above, our ability to "do even better next year" becomes an increasingly greater challenge. Fortunately, the affects of global warming and el nino is continuing to improve our odds, here in the great northest.

I've learned over the years that always 'one upping' myself, whenever it does occur, requires clearly defined goals. I'm curious if other dedicated fishermen think along these lines. Last year, I was privaleged to pretty much to blow out all of these 'blood on the boat' goals, and yes I have the pics  . In any case, I'll go ahead and list mine for 2004 and invite you all to share yours. So what's gonna float your boat in 04?

Chinook - 60#+
hali - 80#+
steel - 25#+
gator - 55" - 60"
peeler - 12'+
albacore - 50+ fish

My goal is more fishin. Its not about getting a 60 pound chinook, or 60" sturg. all though these are nice to have, But I really like spending the time on the water and learning new things. And everyone knows... The more time you spend on the water, the greater your success rate  And the more knowledge you gain.

My goal is to score one of each type that run on the metro rivers. I already released my winter steelie although I'd love to get some keepers. Next is springer, then summer, silver and maybe a coastal nook to top it off. I didn't do any summer fishing last year and didn't hook any winters either.

My Goals 2004 fishing goals..

To get my 82 year old next door neighbor into a springer.

To set up a "ifish kids" spring salmon derby.

To get my wife to go to Tillammook for fall chinook .

To get my 13 year old son to run the trolling motor 100% of the time. I bought him a TR1 and am still having trouble

I have a number of close friends that I fish with on a semi regular basis and I would like like to spend at least one day on the water with each of them.

Start a fishing log that can be passed down to the next generation.

And finally, See the dogwoods blume while springer fishing, run the rapids that the deschutes throws at me, smell the cow **** in Tillamook county and be able to respond to this same post in 2005.

After reading these responses I see that I may have lost sight of the joy of fishing, relative to the meat in the freezer. Thanks for ya'all putting things into perspective. Still though, I like to keep track.

Yo 5cents. You sound like a motivated and worthy floatilla mate for upcoming inshore ocean voyages. I invite you to email me with specifics about your vessel, as I'd like to help you 'shake it down' before big blue allows us upon her this year...got a few pics of last summer on the brine you might be interested in seeing.

To turn my beautiful, new white and chrome Motion Marine into a beautiful new bloody red and chrome Motion Marine.

Fish some new (to me) water.
Meet some new Ifishers.
Kick back in the sweet new fully reclining camp chair in the new sled with some old friends sipping on cold barley pops on the hook with the rod doing a WWF caliber Schmack Down!

Honestly, new water is my biggest gig.

Peace!

To enjoy the slower pace of week day fishing as opposed to the weekend crowds. To be able to pick and choose the days I fish when the weather is dry for the most part. To enjoy and keep good health by working out on a regular basis and reducing my waist line.

1. Get more involved with the efforts to improve our fisheries management. I've been on the sidelines 'taking it' for too long.

2. Meet and fish with some of you ifish folks.

3. Catch a couple fish along the way!

4. Have Fun!

Find a fantastic buy on a used drift boat....
Rebuild the interior (under floor and flooring) in our boat and make it more sea worthy for the big blue this year.
Get my 4 yr old grand daughter a lic and tag and have her land her own salmon/steelhead!
Spend more time fishing with My "old" long time friend, wanafish and do a "hand off" to my son , Mastercaster!
Meet a few more ifishers.
edit: Be able to afford a great rod like Gus Orviston made my son MasterCaster!

I want to take my 80 year old Dad fishing in MY boat. He's never fished for stugeon, and I haven't landed a keeper yet. Like to score a two in one. Get my kid to go with me more. She's 13 and needs to spend time with Dad. Remember that when I'm fishing, it ain't the fish I'm after. There's more, ya'll probably know what I'm thinkin

This year, I want to get my Dad into a bunch of fish, and I would like to break the 100 salmon mark. I was at 89 last year, so I need that other 11 this year. I would like to get a bunch more rookies into fish this year too, that was probably my favorite part last year.

My goals for 2004...

I want to get my wife into fishing so that I can have my best friend enjoy the same things that I do.

I want to finally put a "punch" on my tag.

I want to catch my first Salmon (and being greedy maybe my second).

I want to hit the Big Blue for the first time, salmon, halibut, tuna, or even just the adventure of going out.

I want to meet some good fishin buddies that want to go not only at the "peak" times.

I also want to enjoy life, enjoy the water, and enjoy fish icin' in the boat!

want want want!!!

Lured In called it....I'm gunna quit playing "guide" , relax and FISH. Last year my girl friend pulled the UGLIEST orange and yellow Kwikfish out of my box (I'm sure it was from a "bargian bin"). After I spent 5 minutes trying to talk her out of "making" me wrap it, she proceeded to LIMIT on springers. Did I mention it was her FIRST trip!!!!

I want to catch another 6#+ smallmouth
I want to post some open seats for springers
I want to "explore" S.E Oregon with my fly rod
I'm going to use lighter tackle when I can.
Take my mom & dad fishing more!
Sacrifice a couple days of Springer fishing and go back in March and jig for Walleye below the John Day dam again...it's a KICK!!

Maybe FINALLY get rid of my "bucket" anchor puller, put a crowbar in my wallet and buy, " one of them thar new fangled orange bouy gadgets"

Have my 3 yr. old daughter catch her first fish, NOT at the plastic lined pond at the Sportsmans show.
Land a Hali on my own boat.
Target large Chinooks in the ocean more.

fish-addict and Fishybill congrats. on the first little ones, June is a great month

Been thinking about this a little. Here goes:

These are for this year and are in addition to catching my normal numbers of fish.

Spend more time fishing with my girlfriend

Release a few more fish, I already release quite a few, but plan to keep less this year.

Take a rookie fishing, this has not been one of my strong suits and I want to do better.

Short and simple............

Northern, southern, salmon, sturgeon, empty beer cans. There sure is a wide range of goals out there, and it occurs to me that it would be a blast to assemble as many of us as possible somewhere in the middle... Somewhere where there is a wide range of critters to pursue. Somewhere our perhaps less addicted to fishing significant others might also enjoy visiting....

The only place that comes to mind and fits all these bills would have to be Newport...Great ocean fishing off shore, sturgeon up the river, crabs in the bay, and if we time it right, herring galore for everyone to harvest. Perhaps we should plan a spring get together, on a weekend with extreme high tides. If we are fortunate enough to also have friendly seas, we could divide up into three groups...the seafaring, the gatoraters, and the barnacle/bait baggers. Then all meet on the docs, exchange supluses, and so everyone goes home with some of everything.

Thoughts on this?

1. Get this kicker put back together
2. Go fishing

and the same unlikely goals as every year:

3. Catch a spring chinook
4. Hit the Deschutes salmonfly hatch "just right"

Hmmm - - - I would like to recover from this surgery (seems to take for ever to get well again). Get my boat up & running and take my dad (83), my son, my grandson (6) and myself fishing before its to late. I'd really like my dad to get to know my grandson!
I sure enjoy watching my grandkids & kids in general catch fish, their smiles are so big and for a moment it makes me feel like a kid again.

Not in any particular order:

1. Catch fish.
2. Break the 50# Fall Chinook mark (43# this past year). Last year's goal was to break my previous record of 40#, did it twice in 2003.
3. Break the 20# Steelhead mark (11# about ten years ago). This is a tough one.
4. Break the 30# Springer mark (27# about ten years ago). This also is tough.
5. Record 10 Tillamook County Fall Chinook. (Could have done it last year, but I released a couple, and handed off a couple). I've caught more than 10 on many occaisions, but never kept 10, caught and released 7 one day about 10 years ago.
6. Catch a Siletz Fall Chinook or two. (Hooked one along the bank last fall, none landed).
7. Catch a limit of silvers. Never done that.
8. Catch an adult springer on the Willamette. (Caught three fat football shaped 16-18" clipped springer jacks one day two years ago shad fishing).
9. Catch a chinook in the Columbia.
10. Go sturgeon fishing. Can you believe I've never done that?
11. Catch a steelhead on the dreaded pink worm. I had a takedown in December, but was daydreaming.
12. Not to daydream while fishing.
13. Help Hankstr catch his first springer and steelhead. He caught one pig of a fall nookie last fall.
14. Take several kids I know fishing.
15. And so on, and so on...........
