Default Hot Tomale on the Sandy today

"The Hot Tomale Outdoor Show" produced and hosted by our member Scott Kappes has been filming TV fishing shows with local guides, including some of our Ifish guides, and presenting the shows on cable TV; I think channel 11 on most cable formats. Today, Scott and I went with guide Jack Glass, and cameraman Jeff, to fish the lower Sandy River for about 3 hours as a backdrop to discuss 2 heated fishing issues. Jack presented what's going on with the controversial Sandy R. management plan and I presented what is going on with the Columbia River chinook fishing allocation issue. We all 3 discussed these issues at length. While we did this we had 3 rods out backtrolling, the 2 on the outside with Hot Shots and the center one with Hot N Tot and eggs. We were playing musical chairs early on while starting filming and to my luck I was sitting next to Scott's original rod when a nice bright 10 lb. native steelhead munched the plug like they normally do a bait. I picked it up and set it and I got to play it to the boat; thanks Scott . It was a fun day and an interesting conversation among the 3 of us. And you will actually be able to hear it despite a relentless east wind blowing thru the mic, because the high tech equipment filters out wind noise, but not voices, somehow. Nice scenery too. Scott will let us know when it will be on. Thanks again Scott, Jack, and Jeff for a fun time. - Steve

RT....

You rod hog......That was MY rod darnit!!! No really, that was a good time and I hope it raises awareness of the issues us fisherman are now facing. Catching that fish today was the "kicker"!!!

I will be on the air with Jack Glass this weekend on KOTK 1080 AM 6-7:00 AM and I will let everyone know about THAT show and others we are now videotaping. Any viewers that want to call in and give me a hard time...go for it!!

Steve, keep up the good work you're doing here on iFish.net!!

Scott

I saw your show Monday night with the movie star(David). Great job! Your show has taken the place of a local fishing show. I know bass fishing is cool and fun but that is all a guy can find on the tube (yuck). Since Larry went missing their has not been a N.W. show with local people and local species. Do you do hunting shows?

I watched the show on Monday because of a ifish post, thanks. I hope this venture spins off into something bigger, or just bigger fish (6lb hen on monday).lol

Great work guys, I see Scott has it scheduled for early March. Hopefully it educates and spurs a few more individuals to get engaged and take some action.

I don't know if you ever listen to the outtake of the Lars Larson show where Terrible Ted states that if your not on a first name basis with your legislators, your not a real American! I don't know if I'd personally go that far, but these issues need some personal attention by each of us. Hopefully your work helps with expanding that message by a few thousand.

Thanks for your effort.

Fishhead..Jet,

Thanks for your comments. I know the show is a little "rough around the edges" but it's getting better, atleast I HOPE it's getting better! It takes quite a bit of time puting the show together and since it's only a hobby at this time, It is what it is! Who knows...maybe someone with big $$$ is out there who wants to send it over the edge!!!(Thats good, right?)

Here's a quick note...I will be on with Jack Glass this Saturday Morning on KOTK 1080 AM from 6:00-7:00 AM. It's called the "Outback Angler"....maybe you've listened to it before. Call in and give me a hard time!!

Keep on watching and be sure to tell your friends!

Scott

P.S. Go to the web site..... www.hottamaleoutdoorshow.com to get the show schedule

I too enjoyed Monday's show. Thanks for giving the heads up. I hope that some shows in the future do break away from the chit-chat to walk us through specific techniques - like how to rig a prawn for Springers, etc. Looking forward to the Sandy River show with Jack.

Hey Sandshrimp!!!! I remember seeing you out there!

Navigator, yes you're right...we should have focussed more on Techniques with Dave Johnson, BUT...we we're having too much fun and got carried away...(So much for the amateur videographer) But I will say this....in past episodes, when the fishing was slow,(and unfortunately, that has been way too often this year) we typically have the guide, who we are fishing with, explain what they are doing and why.. So we're working on it!!!! Thanks for your input!

T.H. No catalogue of shows just yet...I will post on the web-site, a list of the shows here in the next few weeks and if you want a copy, just let me know.

Scott

Hey Hottamale1,
I am a very good friend of Jack's and you couldn't have picked a better more informative guide to do your show with. He has taught me about everything I know about fishing the Sandy. Here's a little story for you about him and his knowledge of the Sandy. Three friends from out of town and I booked a trip with him for winter steelhead a few years back. The day before our trip it rained like crazy and the river was like chocolate milk. Jack called and wanted to know if we wanted to reschedule. Since everyone had already driven up we decided to fish the next day anyway. To make a long story short, we hooked/landed two nice fish that day in the chocolate milk, I couldn't believe it. Only one of many fun/amazing trips I've taken with Jack. If anybody out there is looking for a guided trip I highly recommend Jack, nothing but a class act (66-JACKS).
