Know A Kid That Wants Some Decoys?
...then let me know.
We're starting to collect some decoys and will need kids to give them too. Any kid that is 17 or younger can come get them. We'll be handing them out on Saturday, December 2. We'll be at the Fisherman's Marine parking lot in Delta Park (hope that's central enough).
Let me know by December 1 so we can get a head count and know how many decoys to give out to each kid.
Please make sure the kid is present to pick up their decoys.
Geoff

Re: Know A Kid That Wants Some Decoys?
Hi
I'd like to speak up on behalf of Aaron Bradshaw age 12. Most of the folks that hunt with me have hunted or at least know Aaron. He comes from a sindle parented family that is somewhat financially challenged. He is a down to earth young man who loves this sport. I've managed to keep him in waders and hunting jackets for the past three years which gets kind of hard because he is growing like a weed. This year he was too biug for youth and to small for mens so you guessed it womens size. He is really bummed about that we do tease him a bit about it but at least he is dry and warm. Any decoys that comes his way will be cherished and used for many years to come.
Aaron is currently down in southern cal for the Eukanuba Dog show and is the #1 junior handler for the labrador retriever bred in the nation. He is also going to West Minister (sp) this year again as a Junior Handler. We managed to get him scholorshi[ps from many different organizations to send him to these two dog shows last year and again this year. Anyway the decoys would be a great gift for this kid. I'll try and post some pics if I can.

Re: Know A Kid That Wants Some Decoys?
ttt...
We collected a good bunch of decoys, many rigged and ready (Aaron may luck out), some new, most well seasoned and notched...
We're figuring options for leftovers, but ifishers have first dibs...c'mon now.
Geoff...call me for the Saturday thing. I'm hunting until at least noon or so???

Re: Know A Kid That Wants Some Decoys?
Sorry I didn't get over there to drop the decoys off yesterday, Bill. Still had family in for the holidays and all. I'm gonna help with one of the hand-out locations on Saturday (or whenever/wherever we do it), so i'm planning on bringing more then. PM'ing you with more info.

Re: Know A Kid That Wants Some Decoys?
I know I committed to pitching in some dekes, but I ran into a kid with no dad that's getting into duckin'......He now has 2 doz. Carrylite Mallards. The only rule was that if (when) he ever upgrades, he has to pass them on, and I believe he will. I ran into him a few days after giving him the dekes, he looked me in the eye, shook my hand and said,"thank you VERY much".
I think there's another hunter in the swamp!!!

Re: Know A Kid That Wants Some Decoys?
Blue Water and everyone else...
We're not going to be in Delta Park because we only have (three now) a few kids lined up.
We'll make sure all three of them get some decoys. Blue Water, contact me for details. We're going to be at my place sometime Sunday afternoon if you can bring her up here (Oregon City).
The rest of the most useable decoys will go to the Oregon Duck Hunters' Association for their kids' programs...some at the upcoming fund-raiser and the balance at their March kids' night...
Those that need some TLC will go to the Outdoor show kids' decoy painting gig...
If anyone has more to donate, contact either Marshbum or myself.
A special thanks to everyone who donated. If you can think of anything else to do with the stash, let us know that, too...

Re: Know A Kid That Wants Some Decoys?
Bill,
not sure if anyone has gotten ahold of you guys about this or not, but there is a kid that works for the Dairy Farmer near the aldrich point launch that is getting into duck hunting and could use some dekes. He is in his early teens i believe and his father doesn't really hunt so the kid is on his own for gear. being just a farm hand i doubt he gets paid a whole lot.
contact Cap'n Dan for the info on the kid. he told me about him and would be a good point of contact to set up getting the kid some dekes.

Re: Know A Kid That Wants Some Decoys?
Bill,
Second Ed's (Swamp Puppy's) request for the boy on the dairy farm out on Aldrich. If there is a way to make sure some get to him, that would be appreciated.--Brian

I think we've got him covered. Kirk has offered to pick them up and take them...Two other youngsters will get some as well...all will be ready to go with line and weights and in bags.
The remainder (unless we hear from someone else in the next day or two) will be donated to the Oregon Duck Hunters Association...some probably for kids at their fund-raiser and the rest for their youth night in March.
Decoys that could use some work will go to the kids-painting booth at the outdoor show.
Thanks again to everyone...

Re: Know A Kid That Wants Some Decoys?

Last chance, all...
There are about a dozen nice bluebill decoys if some youngster is committed to the saltmarsh.
Also a dozen magnum goose shells. In fact, I don't think they've been used.
We're sending decoys to four ifish youngsters (a few pins going to a 6-year-old sister of a 10-year-old hunter).
Some of the rest will go to the painting booth and the others to ORegon Duck Hunters Association.
Thanks again to all participants.

for those that aren't familiar with the ODHA's youth night. it's a great thing for the youngsters. donating the extras to them is certainly a worthwhile cause.

Re: Know A Kid That Wants Some Decoys?
Those goose dekes might be cool for the dairy farmers kid as he has tons of geese there on the farm. Thansk to the guy who is taken them out to him. HE lives inthe white house which is the first one you come to as you go down the road

Re: Know A Kid That Wants Some Decoys?
Does he have a permit, Dan? This is kind of your and Kirk's call. Kirk picked up a bag of decoys for him...
FYI...Have also found homes (tentative) for the donated scaup and for some scaup I'm tossing in...two different youngsters.
And also, in the interests of full disclosure, I waited until everything else was spoken for then gave my own grandson a bag (the smallest).
There's still a bag left with a couple of dozen large mix of pins and mallards...strung, weighted and ready.
The rest, four or five dozen basically unstrung new decoys, and the new goose shells (pending Dan's decision) are heading for ODHA this coming Thursday.

Re: Know A Kid That Wants Some Decoys?
Not sure about the permit. I'm sure he can take the on-line test. He doesn't appear to have a language barrier and seems to be a smart kid. I'd say unless you have a better home for them give them to him. He has some great land to use them on out there. Thats my .02 worth
