Default Other Beavers that Fish

I was looking through some of the posts and I saw that there are quite a few of OSU students that like to fish as much as I do. I have had this idea of starting a fishing club on campus and right now I am in the process of the paper work. However, I wondering if the other OSU students have any good ideas for a faculty advisor? Or if any is intreseted in helping out starting the club let me know. I will certainly let everyone know when the first meeting is.

Great idea!!! Let me know if you need any help. I don't know what you are planning yet, but I would be interested in getting into this. I am assuming this is for all types of fishing. Salmon, trout and steelhead are prefered of course, but bass and panfish guys are okay too, right? Hell, we can even let some of the flyfishermen join too I guess. I don't know if this is going to entail planned trips or fishing demos or what, but I am excited just thinking about it. Way cool. Another way for fishing to distract me from school.

I can't believe you guys are actually paying to go to the cow college.....but since you are: I was there in the mid eighties (ya, I graduated) and there was a little abandoned log pond, sort yard, that was chalk full of bass (all were 10 inch, I think there were to many) and some monster blue gill. I fished the pond with waders and flyrod and caught the largest blue gill I have ever caught. I couldn't reach my hand around the body to pull the spines back to release it. The Alsea is the river of choice but in the spring that log pond couldn't be beat.(don't ever eat anything from the pond). As I remember the pond was west of the Sheep facilities (some of the people on this board got some kind of degree in those very barns).

OLC - I was there thru the early, mid and late eighties. (I was a slow learner ) I use to cross the bridge on the east side of town headed for I-5. It wasnt far to some ponds Morse Bros. had dug gravel from. The ponds were on the right side of the road. Plumb full of pan fish. Lots of fun when you only had a few hours between classes, or beers.

Hey fellow Beavs! I'd be honored to be part of this fishing club. As for advisor ideas... I know there's a prof. in the Geosciences dept. that has a bunch of fishing pictures on his door. I walk buy his office on Thrus. so I'll post his name when I find out. Other than that, Michael Gorman (owner if Scarlet Ibis) is the only other faculty fisherman I know of. I doubt he'd be interested though.

Keep us posted as to when the first meeting is. Thanks for getting this started!

It's great to have you fishing OSU guys on here! I used to be a Beaver fan (I am again) way back when my older bro went there. Now I come down periodically because my daughter goes there. She isn't into fishing though. Dad's weekends are great. Gone to 2 now. I didn't have any idea that the kids and Dad's drank beer at the frats together. This fall I set the Ka**a S** single bowl beer bong record at 1.7 seconds. I was instantly popular with all these young guys I didn't know. Fun! Anyway, let me know how your fishing club comes together. Maybe I could bring my sled down your way and fish 3 or 4 of you on some springers swimming thru town in late May? - RT

Hey BaitOfEggs:

I know exactly where you are talking about. I used to live just a little farther in an old chicken coop (literaly). It still makes me laugh when I read all the posts about the wealthy river front land owners and remember living in that chicken coop while I put my self through school. And what was the CE building? Atherton hall? I spent a lot of time there and at Peavy. We actually may know each other.

I think an OSU fishing club is a great idea. Just let me know the details and I'm in.

One Last: The building you are talking about is Apperson Hall. I too spent lots of time there. Now I find myself mostly at Richardson (new Forest Products building). But, occasionally I have to go back to the dreaded Apperson 212.

It was Apperson hall and I use to just about live there. It was only across the street to Clodfelters for the first round. I actually had keys to the building being an AGC officer in 87. Went thru the CEM program, which was part of the CE program. I bet we may know each other or at least would recognize each other.

OK

I believe you guys...Apperson Hall, the problem was Clodfelters and the Circle K were to close. Shows what I remember from school.

Hey, what do you need for faculty? What do they need to do? I am unclassified faculty (a postdoc) in the Microbiology Department, and would be glad to help out if I can. If I can't help out, let me know where to sign up.

Hey Fishin'beaver the club sounds like a pretty cool deal. Sounds like a good way to get to know some other beaver fisherman as well as learn some new stuff. As far as faculty goes I could ask my instructor in flyfishing and see if he is interested or not. If you need some help give me a holler i'm not to sure how helpfull i can be but who knows.

Boy, you guys are bringing back some memories.. Back in 86' I was a freshman at OSU and quit school in the middle of my second term. My report card showed an F in my Spin Fishing class. My fraternity knew that I was helping to teach that class but they still had a grand old time of making fun of me. The only thing I learned that year was to never have your report card sent to the frat house where a bunch of drunk smart asses could get a hold of it before you could.

OLC - I am sure I would recognize you if we met. I knew most of the CE guys who got out in 87. We shared the same building in the same year. I think in 87 about 80% of my classes were in Apperson.

we gotta hook up one of these days

Oh the memories from Apperson 212......from the 7:30 Engineering Materials class to JR Bells Soils fundamentals. And who can forget clod's!

Ok, glad it's over and I graduated. I do miss the campus on warm spring days though, especially during Schult's surveying! Amazing what you can see with a Wild T-2!!

Oh man, my head hurts just thinking about it. BOE: I used to fish those Morse ponds quite a bit. Best day was during bluegill spawning, I ran out of bait. Don't think I had more than maybe one class in Apperson, since I wasn't an engineer. I was there 88-92 though. You college boys, ya might want to walk around the Fish and Wildlife building. I've lost track of who is still there, but ya never know.

Hey guys, remember the glory days of OSU football. Air Kragthorpe, ripping the goal posts down in every one of our three or four wins, and being so blitzed you didn't mind at all? Remember, weren't that great!!!??

Waterdog: the best part about the scenery was that since winters were so wet and cold, any, and I mean ANY increase in air temperture brought 'em out in droves. Oh so sweet.

Hey Fishbeaver,
You might consider forming a chapter of the NW Steelheaders. Couple of benefits, existing structure to assist you in forming the club, Liability insurance for some of your activities, recognized name makes it easier to get donations and the 501c(3) status is already in place.. Just a thought if you are interested. You can go to the link on Jeannies page for contact info at the state level. If you have an interest and get stuck, e-mail me and I will see if I can help.

Schultz - "Angle of the Arc" and Arc was pronounced Auuuuk

And if anybody wants to rip on "rim pull Roberts", I want to be in line first. Phelps did like to add the pozzelen to his placed concrete. He did have a nice cabin on the lower Alsea though.

As an OSU post bac. student and employee I think the fishing club sounds like a terrific idea. I can vouch for Kwiky as an advisor, He was a TA for one of my courses years ago. Sharp as a tack. In my opinion structuring a new sort of club would be more exciting then starting a new chapter of NW Steelheaders. Gives our own identity that way. Trip trading, monthly meeting, special functions, all would be great. Count me in when it begins or when help is needed. Email adress is in my profile.

Hey RT, are the Kappa Sigs a popular frat down there or something, or are you ashamed to say Kappa Sigma because they suck?

Pi Kappa Phi, do or die, kill kill kill.
j/k but that was the frat I was in at the U of A. 1.7 seconds is a record? Oh Lord, please have mercy on these poor poor souls who haven't lived yet ahh, the days of the electric chair, keg stands, hunch punch, jello shooters, flamin' moes and 4 horsemen will not be forgo....what was I saying? Anyways, try a 16oz cup of beer in under 1.5 seconds. Ahh the good ol money making cup races; I can't remember the exact time on the stopwatch, but that was a record, along with 53 beers. No, I didn't graduate...lol , but hey, at least it was my wasted money.....and at $1,973 a sememster to be in the frat, excluding tuition and books, it was a waste of my money. One good thing though, it harnassed my skills on sega, and pretty much broke me of kamikaze drinking. I guess I'm old or something

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, but I don't have a commputer so the only chance I get is between classes in the library. The response sounds great. I am planning to open the club up to all kinds of fishing, yes even fly fishing, but my fav is salmon steelhead driftfishing. I hope to get this going soon but I have to do all the paper work first.

Dont know if you guys are still talking about the origional thread here but the Professor in Geosciences with all the fish pictures is Phill Jackson, he is a great guy and would probably be interested with being a faculty advisor for a fishing club he is pretty busy though but it wouldnt hurt asking. Wish somebody would have thought of this when i was going to school there last year.

Scales - If you dont think drinking and doing things like eating gold fish for breakfast with a JD chaser has anything to do with a college fishing group. Well then you either never went to college or missed out on some life experiences.

Everything at college starts and ends with a little elixer of the gods. Everything between those drinks is just details.

Been there done that, now I just fish.

Yeah but ya know he was wanting to ask that though. Everything else was just details, now I fish, and everything inbetween trips is details. We gave him ideas for his fishing club so chill out, no harm done.

Besides, eating goldfish could be related to fishing. Just think of it as aquainting yourself with the bait. Now I can say that I know what a sturg feels when its lipping my smelt

BOE,
As far as I know, scales has never heard of starch - or undies for that matter . Maybe that's the problem . I guess his selective memory has blocked out the bottles of Jaegermister before the pigskin games, rambling home from the bars at 2 a.m. every Thursday, and picking fights at the Philomath Frolic in a drunken stupor. We're much more mature than that now, eh scales?

BOE: Already did the college thing. Just don't remember eating many gold fish. I must have really missed out on something great. Sounded to me like fishin beaver was really curious about finding out the interest level on starting a fishing club. Don't remember him asking how many beers and goldfish everyone drank in college.
