Default Need foot help

Stepped on a big nail this evening on my heel . Darn thing felt like it went clear to the bone. It took two good pulls to get it out. It's bruised bad a starting to get a little puffy.

Here is the problem my boy and I still have 5 days left on the elk quest. This is his first season and we want to keep going after'em.

What can a fella do so walking can be atleast bearable tomorrow? Right now I am hobbling around on the ball and toes of that foot.

Any help or ideas you have would be great.

Thanks

Owl

Clean that bad boy out really well. Put bacteria ointment on it! Put some clean 4 by 4's on it and double your socks up. When is the last time you had a tetnus shot? You'll make it. Just keep it clean and padded. Your going to feel it but after 1000 steps it will be numb. Pat

If you have any rubbing alcohol around, flush the wound with that. It stings because it kills the exposed nerve endings. May get you a few extra hundred yards in the hunt.

If you're not up on your tetanus shot, make it a point to get 'er done tomorrow and have the doc look at the wound while you're at it.

If you think it struck the bone don't mess around go see the doc. Infection in the bone can be very bad news. They can also give you a shot to numb it up for a few hours

You better go see a doctor Spotty, blood poisoning isn't anything to fool with! Better to live and fight another day, then to go down in the first wave of the battle. My foot hurts just thinking about it, but then again, my heel hurts anyway from that dang spur!

Good luck!

+1 on a visit to the Sawbones.

If you refuse pro treatment, I'd get my mitts on an irrigation syringe, fill it full of antibacterical solution, stick the tip into the wound (ouch) and flush it VERY VERY well. Then, ice it up really good to keep the swelling down and keep a clean bandage on it. Don't do anything to close it up, as you raise your risk of infection that way.

But again. . .go see a doc.
