Jig Fishing rod

Has anyone ever tried a Loomis 1173 for jig fishing? This rod is 9'9" and it has a reversed handle. I saw a guy using one of these and he said that it worked really well for jig fishing. Having the reel on the bottom makes the rod seem like a 10 footer and it makes it easier to lift the rod. This is according to the guy I talked to anyhow. Give me some input on this rod if you have any. I have been thinking about getting one.
