Default $60 million rennovation + $3M dredge?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061115/...uss_intrepid_4

You know, maybe $63 million isn't much in our nation's budget anymore, but I have a really hard time spending $60 million on a decommissioned war ship when we have so many other serious issues in this country that need financial attention. Maybe I just don't get it.

I dunno....... I'll admit I'm biased, since I'm a military history freak. I see your point- there's better things to spend it on, but there's worse things, too. The article was vague on the financing, but it does sound like a government deal.

They don't mention it in this article, but in an earlier article, funding for the project has came from many different sources.

We should save the money on this. Lets outsource it to India...they could rennovate it for half the cost!

I did see that funding came from other sources as well but something like 70% is federal funding, some state funding and a small portion is private funding. The article implies that all of the $3million for the dredging is federal dollars. Just seems like a waste of money.

Look at the bright side-- the local economy will benefit, and the feds will get half of it back in income taxes from the contractors.

WWII was the most momentous event in this country's history, and we won the war in the Pacific because of our naval air power. If I'm ever in that neck of the woods, I'll stop by and take a gander......providing they get it unstuck.
