What a day at the Coast! (duck pic)
Our worries that bay birds had been blown out were relieved only minutes into our hunt when the area we pulled into erupted, and just after the decoys were set, skies filled with wave after wave of mallards, widgeon and pintail headed for tidal flats. In an hour on Saturday morning, five hunters had downed over 20 birds, and our final take was nearly 30. It didn't seem to matter whether we were in the blind, in the decoys (actually appeared to help), or chasing dogs around with birds in their mouths, the birds wanted in.
What a day guys!! Thanks again for the excellent memories!
(I think there will be a follow-up report for Sunday's repeat)

Re: What a day at the Coast! (duck pic)
Part 2 is on it's way for sure.
What a weekend on our second favorite coastal bay.
I was actually saying to someone Friday night that, and I think these are my exact words, "Well, five guys in one blind is too many, so we'll hang around for a while after first light then get in my marsh boat and scout out the area. Don't expect to shoot many birds, this is a donation day (donating time and effort for scouting)."
Boy, was I wrong.
I think the title of Saturday should be "The Sweetest Lemonade" simply because the potentially "very bad" event that started us out now is only a footnote when talking about this day... Lemonade from lemons.
After the Saturday and Sunday we had, I was sad to leave today.
Great weekend again guys!
Geoff

Portland rescue mission is looking for food donations, or you guys can try to eat them but good luck with that. Looks like fun shooting though.

Re: What a day at the Coast! (duck pic)
I look forward to your part II post, Geoff. Ruben has something special to post about as well.
I had a sneaking feeling that coming home last night caused me to miss out, but duty called here on the home front. Again, it was great to hunt with all the guys together, even though we didn't believe (until it was happening) that it was possible. I can imagine what five hunters opening up at once would have sounded like.
Here's to being wrong about something (in a good way) once in a while .

If this is what being wrong is like, I wish I was wrong everytime I went hutning
What a weekend. I never thought five of us would ever be able to shoot like that together. It's just not supposed to work like that.

Nice hunt fellas!! Way to lay the wood to 'em. The best days are the ones where you expect nothing, and couldn't be more wrong!

<Austin Power's Voice> It's not Jon's bag baby </Austin Powers Voice>.
He wouldn't be able to shoot all green on the coast

Now, that's funny!! I know Jon is known for green; frankly, with all his posts, his moniker has become synonymous with greenhead limits. Although I cannot speak for him, I don't think he'd pass up a tasty widgeon limit. Spoonies, yeah, he'd probably leave the safety on, and I should have too, but darn it, the little buggers wouldn't stay out of the decoys, something had to be done! First spoony I'd taken in a couple of years, so I didn't feel too badly.
