Cracker Joe Jr's First Sturgeon (pics)
Sorry for the belated report but I wanted to watch the game last night when I got home and that darn work thing got in the way today!
Cracker Joe, his son Nicholas and I hit our super top secret spot (sorry couldn’t help it!) for some sturgeon fishing before the big game. We were pleasantly surprised to see a lack of rigs in the parking lot; in fact there was only one, that’s great for a Sunday. Then I remembered that there was no retention, man was the river nice without a ton of people out there and heck we don’t want to keep these fish anyways so off we went.
Cracker Joe was in the water first and it was about 0.000123 seconds before he had his first fish on that his son got to fight in, his first sturgeon ever! It was a nice 3ft+ shaker that put up a great fight.
“Wow that was tough!”
“Son, that was nothing wait till you get a keeper someday!”
Well about 0.000124 seconds after getting back in the water Nicholas got his first keeper sized fish… dad helped a little but the kiddo did a great job on this nice fish posing with proud papa Cracker Joe!
We ended up with a few more keepers, eight to be exact….
We didn’t get pictures of a couple because we had a few keeper doubles! Fishing was red hot at one point I landed 4 keepers in a row! It was a great day and Nicholas had a great time, he was really feeling those sturg about halftime! Smelt was the bait of choice in 35 ft of water.

Great job! I like seeing the kids getting into fish. Just courious, is there anything you miss about your old boat yet? I am hoping to upgrade to my second boat soon, something like what you used to have.
