My big male golden went swimming after a scoter today in the bay and CAUGHT it. he retrieved it too. The poor bird didn't seem much worse for wear either. Don't think it was in too good shape to begin with. It wouldn't fly, just kept diving until he was able to grab it. Sure seems stupid yelling NO, BAD DOG, when he was just doing what he was bred for.

I just put a bunch of dekes on the pond at my house and my lab keeps retrieving them for me......

Can't scold him.....Just have to laugh and re-set them....

So did you keep the duck?

I met my dog at waters edge and he dropped the bird, who promptly dove and swam off. I don't have a waterfowl tag, and I didn't shoot it so I'd have some 'splainin' do do if OSP showed up. Aside from chasing the bird down against my wishes, that dog did everything right, and I havent even trained him to do regular dog stuff, let alone water retrieve. I think he's trying to tell me something. Supposedly his grandfather is some sort of field champion. He certainly is hard wired for it. His sister would water retrieve 'till she drown if I let her.
