Central Oregon Predator Hunt
Hey anyone interested in getting together for some predator hunting. Thinking that the off season from elk and deer could be productive. Say a tourney Cougars 10 pts, Coyotes 5pts. If there is enough interest I could ask the almighty mods for a blessing and we can have some fun. Let me know what y'all think.

Re: Central Oregon Predator Hunt
Predator hunts always catch my eye, but frankly I'd be concerned with an ifish hunt. Here's why:
Not to hijack the thread or open old (and new) wounds, but I figure coyote hunting is a numbers game; the more sets you make the more dogs you sing to. Sets need to be a mile or so apart (usually) and doing that on ground is pretty taxing. (I've done it many times) Trucks are hard to hide in the sagebrush, so these days I mostly <gasp> use my 4-wheeler. It's easy to hide, quiet, and keeps my gear handy without doors opening and closing and dinging bells.
But I'm also thinking that bringing a 4-wheeler would cause dissention in camp, so....
When you guys go, think about getting a fur-takers license so you can also target bobcats. Your chances of pulling one in are pretty good, and it would be a shame to have to pass on the shot simply because you don't have the right tags.
And if you get a cougar... well, that would be the predator hunt of a lifetime. Wow!
Good luck guys!

Re: Central Oregon Predator Hunt
I think it would be fun! The hard part is scheduling, in that upland bird seasons run through January. So, February would be the earliest it would work, at least for me. The area chosen will have to offer lots of public-accessable ground, and enough roads for everyone to spread out sufficiently.
The quads should not be an issue if it is set up as ATV-friendly from the beginning. If you can't stand them, don't participate. We didn't have any sailboaters complaining about all the power boats in the Tuna Tourney.....
If you want to make it a competition, score coyotes as 1, bobcats as 5, and cougars as 15.

Sounds like it would be fun. I do not have a quad but I am not scared of getting blusters no my feet rp

Re: Central Oregon Predator Hunt
You could count me in and I'm sure at least one other. With my schedule though it will be a 50/50 chance the hunt would be when I'm off.
I think the ATV issue would be ok if that is up front to begin with. I agree with Skein that finding an area with lots of options will probably be the hard thing, but looking at last years attempt at a hunt, the team numbers looked to be small so this may not be that big of problem. Maybe figure out how many teams you can accomodate and then make it first come first serve.

Re: Central Oregon Predator Hunt
I was thinking that 4 wheelers are invited as well as horses, mules, emu and anything else that you could ride. Heck we could even plan different divisions west/central/east. Thinking maybe a two week timew period so people don't have to worry about work schedules. I just think it would be great to get together and teach/learn some things to each other.

Re: Central Oregon Predator Hunt
Count me in too! I was hoping to make it out last year but as Skein pointed out, things got complicated. I'd like to see us get back to the wall tent affair......I don't snore....too loud.
I can give up a weekend of ducks for a little time on the predators.
