Default 45-70 cowboy sighting in problems

I have a 45-70 marlin cowboy rifle and I just can't seem to sight the thing in. it hits low to the right no matter what I do. I think you should be able to drive nails with this thing at 100 yds. any suggestions?

Low and right sounds like you might be anticipating the recoil if you are a lefty or jerking the trigger if you're a righty.
  • Are you right or left handed?
  • Are you shooting from a 2 point rest?
  • What ammo brand are you using?
I have a Marlin SS 1895 SS guide gun with factory barrel porting. The factory no longer offers porting but I think it is a very desirable feature on a short, high recoil gun.

I gave up on Remington ammo and switched to Federal. I also load my own with 300 grain hollow points. Here is a link to reloading data. http://www.realguns.com/loads/4570.htm

If your gun is a Marlin you might be interested in this website. http://www.wildwestguns.com/index.html I put their ghost ring on mine.
