Default Another outsourcing whine

I talked to one of my customers this morning and a product that I've been prototyping for them is going off shore for production. This is new for them but not for me. It's happened with other customers and it's always bad news for the vendors and employees when the outsourcing begins. It will rapidly go down hill from here. Such is the times we live in. I'm getting tired of having to redouble all my efforts. I've redoubled so many times I feel like I have a case of human origami. Do I feel better now for whining?...no.
Parents, Don't let your children grow up to work in manufacturing.

I agree 100% I did it for years at the low end of the totem pole, now I work to much as a small business owner, but it beats working manufacturing, for me anyways. I will sell my soul if that's what it takes for my kids to get a four year degree. Not that its any guarantee that they will get a good job but at least I will have given them the chance to see whats out there for themselves.

IP you are not alone.

I work for a local electronics contract manufacturer. We have seen our share of business move to the low cost centers in China, Malaysia and Tiawan.

We just can not compete on labor costs. However, we are seeing a backlash (as I predicted) regarding quality and delivery (for the industries we service).

We have sucessfully shifted our business model to align to customers that will not or can not (easily) move product off-shore. It has been very painul process.

Hang in there.
