Default Cheat Grass

This is a bad year for cheat grass. I was curious if anyone has any advice as to how to keep cheat grass out of my dogs ear while hunting?

Just check the ears constantly! It doesnt take long for it to work its way deeper! 1 of my dogs got a big piece in his eye last weekend and i never could find it til it was swelled shut and had to take him to the vet

Could someone post a picture of what cheatgrass looks like? I've heard the term, but have no idea what it looks like.

If anyone knows how to get it out of my pastures I would really like to get rid of it. Worse than the ears is the corner of the eyes.

Yeah, here's a trick I learned from a friend who hunts with Springers...

Get and use Mineral Oil (from the Drugstore) and rub it liberally into their coat around their face and ears.

(My Springer friend has to rub it ALL OVER his dogs! )

It does help and even on a short coated dog like a Lab or Shorthair it helps preventing the stickers and foxtail type seeds from sticking to their coat.

if you get into cheatgrass, you are in the right place.

It is the staple food of the Chuckar.

I used to carry eye drops and for my dogs while Chukar hunting. If you flush their eyes every so often it helps.
Unfortunately cheat grass is a main food source for Chukar, so if you are into Chukar you're into Cheatgrass.

If the dogs ears are really sensitive to infection you could hunt him with cotton balls.

I have a shorthair and have never really had trouble but my hunting partner has an english setter and he is getting it all the time. Last week he got some in his ear 5 minutes into the hunt. Then our hunting trip turned into a vet trip.
