Default Dead Critter in the wife's car

Some critter, most likely a mouse, has crawled down some inaccessible spot in my wife's car. We have been patiently waiting for the smell to go away. It has not, and with the cooler temps, driving with a window open is becoming less of an option.

Anyone have a good idea or suggestion on getting rid of, or neutralizing the dead animal smell. If there is a good odor neutralizer out there, I might be able to spray into the area where I think the dead critter is located.

Thanks!

did you see the news report where the guy sued Bently because his car had a smell that he couldn't get rid of?? he owned a air freshener company and his strongest couldn't get rid of the smell. go a feeling it will come back but you may be able to pin it down with the cooler weather

Check out this link -

It starts discussing a dead mouse about half-way down.

Can you dust it good with agricultural lime (ground chalk)? That seems to work on roadkill.

If your name is Guido I would check to see if you accidentily left a body in the trunk after work.

the best air freshener I've used is a spray called Ozione and can be found at most stores that sell fresheners, it's not a sweet coverup and will last for a reasonable length of time. In a pinch you can throw a fabric softener under the seat

1) Be happy this is not YOUR daily driver.

2) Be even happier that it is not a carton of sandshrimp.

3) Stuff some dryer sheet strips inside the freesh air intake vents.

4) Spill some of her fancy perfume around on the carpet.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

We have tried the perfume thing. The combination of dead and perfume is smelling.

What ever died crawled down the air intake for the rear heater. I see no easy way to access this area of the car. If the smell does not go away, I'll have to start taking the rear inside paneling apart.

Last night I sprayed Lysol down the intake. I also bought some Ozium to use as a chaser after the Lysol. We will try this for a few rounds to see if we can make headway on the stink.

I had to laugh at my daughter this morning. She said our dog's breath smelled like the inside of Mom's car.

This is an expensive idea -

Turn on the heater with the windows open and dry the critter out for a few hours.

Mummify the critter - look up how much baking soda and salt to mix together - pour a ton of it down there - dry that bugger up, than hit it with the shop vac. Either that or drop your wedding ring down there and you'll have a real reason to take it apart
