Default How long will live bait live?

I was reading through some posts and saw that some people are planning on getting live bait on Friday to fish with on Saturday. I have a 30 gallon oval baitwell and a 700gph aerator. If I were to jig herring out at SJ2 in the afternoon how well would they hold up overnight with the aerator running inside the illwaco marina? There has to be an ifisher or two that has some experience with this. Any insight will be appreciated.

With the aerator on they will live just fine. we did this on Taylors viewpoint's boat and the vast majority lived just fine.

You could probably jig anchovies in the river. It has been loaded with bait. YOu could start off at Bouy 11 or the mouth of Baker Bay. Around the south jetty would be good also, but I don't know about 2SJ. Look for the dive bombers hitting the water. Lotsa big brown birds (pelicans and Turns) with the gulls trying to steal some food.
Good luck.
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Couple things...

- herring in general are a heartier (tougher) baitfish than anchovies. However....

- herring do not tolerate as warm a water temp as anchovies. So if you are leaving them in the same batch of water (non-recirc) you might want to pay attention to the starting temperature; keep it below 62 if possible, preferably in the 50's. Chunk of ice maybe?
