Default Just My Luck!

So, I gave notice at work, with a departure date of Oct. 31. Looking at the calendar, I am thinking - "cool! I get to hunt the last 3 days of deer season - guilt free!" I get home today and my wife hands me an envelope and said, "you better take a look at this." That didnt sound like good news. So I opened it up. It reads at the top "Summons for Jury Service. US District Court." Date: Wed Nov. 1,2006 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Yes, I know, it is my duty and privelage. But why then?

Do you have any legitimate reason for an extension/delayed service? Of course you do! Do your duty, but maybe next month, if they'll let you?

I wonder if I can get a doctor note that says I have buck fever. Would that be a legitimate medical condition?

Call them and tell them you have vacation......they may re-book your seat. I've done it.

Otherwise have fun and enjoy the drama

You can get it postponed. I just served duty here in mult co. Just let them know you have a trip planned and would be gald to serve at a different time.

OK, all you guys who have postponed your dates. Any of you done it for federal court? I've done the same for county court, but this is the first time I've been summoned to federal court.

Too bad about the hunting part of it, but I think I would actually go to the Federal Court as I have never done that before.
Can't hurt to give them a call to see if you can delay, but probably won't be as easy as county.

The first time I was summoned to jury duty in federal court, prior to showing up, they just told me not to bother and that I would be called in a year or so.

The next time I got called, (about a year later) they dismissed me without any explanation! (probably the case was settled out of court or??)

If your experience is like mine, they won't need you at all.

Happy hunting!

My wife and the fellow I work with have both gotten their times reset at federal court for similar reasons - - it just isn't a big deal. 'Get ahold of them, as has been suggested here, explain your situation and that you're proud to serve, just later . . . Don

Look at the bright side, maybe you will get the chance to throw some guy/gal in prision for running a trolling motor, crab pot and tackle theft ring

I just got a Federal Subpoena a couple of months ago. I believe that the number of times that you actually have to show up is pretty minimal. I called on Sunday before court and they said that we had been held over, if I didn't get called back in one year then I was excused from service. Chances are that the same will happen here, but you might want to use buck fever as extra insurance.
