Default Puppies

I keep seeing threads on here about puppies and I'm wondering how you keep them entertained all day if you work and can't be there with them

I currently have a 4 yo Lab who can be left alone all day.

I wouldn't let them stay together that's a recipe for disaster......

Someday I might get a new pup and I'd like to have this all thought out before I talk the wife into another dog.....

I love your plan. Always think it all out before you propose an idea to the wife.

For the days when nobody is home, my puppy is in a largish wire crate with lots of toys. I come home at or around lunch to play with, water, and let the puppy potty. When they are really small that means feeding too.

BTW, she's usually asleep when I get home. My feeling is she mostly sleeps when I'm not there.

I chose a outside kennel with a doghouse.

Kennel was covered with gravel which reduced his digging, and doghouse was filled with cedar chips.

During the winter it was covered in a rubber tarp and surrounded by hay to keep warm - threw in a heat lamp a few times it got really cold.

Make sure there are plenty of toys he cant eat and I never had to worry.

When they're little bitty and up until about six months, I keep them crated by themselves with plenty of safe toys. I get to stop by the house on breaks and lunches, so pup is never crated more than a few hours. This has helped quite a bit with potty training, as pup gets put directly outside after being removed from the crate. After a few weeks of this, no more indoor potty worries.

When pup gets big enough he/she can generally hold their own with the other dogs, they get put outside immediately after their morning feed and kenneled up in a covered 6x12' concrete floored cyclone fenced kennel, where they spend the entirety of the day.

During the evenings, the dogs are allowed inside for a few hours of socialization. I can't imagine having all four of them running loose at all times indoors. Talk about a recipe for divorce!
