I have stayed at the Hotel Playa Mazatlan before and it was a pretty nice place.

I don't know anythng about the fishing boat, but the El Cid is one of the nicer hotels there as well, so hopefully that bodes well for your boat and captain. Have fun.

The Playa is located within the "Golden Zone", basically the resort area, and towards the south end of the golden zone.

Last time I was there was about 6 years ago. There used to be a small market right across the street from the Playa, and I used to go in there to buy cerveza and snacks. There are also several restaurants within walking distance, and if you want to go further the pulmonias (open air taxis) are reasonably priced.

I did one trip out of Mazatlan once on a 24 foot panga. We only got one dorado that day, but saw other boats with all kinds of fish. Good luck and have fun.

If you are into bass fishing at all you might want to look into fishing up at one of the lakes about an hour and a half out of Mazatlan. I think it is called El Salto. The right time of year you can catch tons of fish, including some big largemouth.

When are you heading to Mazatlan, we'll be there from November 7th-19th.

This will be our 3rd November in a row fishing in Mazatlan, and each time we've fished with Escualo Fleet Sport Fishing and always had a great trip...they're just a couple blocks east of the El Cid in the same waterway.

In our last two trips, we boated many Dorado, Wahoo, Striped Marlin, Roooster fish and YellowTail. These two Striped Marlin were C n R'd on a morning trip in November '05

my 140#...

Buddy Roberts 170#...

Don't forget Lake El Salto bass fishing, my wife and I have had 70 bass mornings(4-5 hours fished) the last two trips and we're not bass fisherman...

Last time I was there the Playa Mazatlan had a pretty good dinner show. It's a buffet dinner with pretty good food, and a show with music and dancing. It was pretty popular when we were there. I am not sure of the cost, as someone else picked up the tab, but it was a good show and meal.

I didn't mean that you had to dance at the dinner show, it's one of those things where THEY are providing the entertainment. It's basically traditional mexican music and dancing in the traditional costumes. I think they did a little comedy and magic as well, although we had many cervezas ourselves that night.

If you want to go out for drinks and dancing afterward try Joe's Oyster Bar just down the beach a few hundred yards. It's an open air bar right on the beach, you'll hear the music.
