Default Video Editing Help ASAP!!! Please help!!!

Ok here goes, I just received several tapes from my brother up in Alaska of all his hunts this year. They have 3 rams, and a caribou killed on tape. My job is to edit them all. The video camera is an older sony that takes hi-8 tapes. This camera does not have usb or firewire ports. Is there anyway to get an adapter that would allow me to download to my editing software? I need help fast, as I have to get the camera sent back to alaska soon.

Yes!

ATI All In Wonder cards have the ability to import from standard S-Video or Composite signals.

Pinnacle, Dazzle and others make devices that will add the capability to your computer as well. Looks like a trip to Compusa is in order.

I have one sitting on my desk right now. It is a Dazzle* Hollywood DV-Bridge.

Mine has RCA inputs and an S-Video input on the front, and then uses a 1394 connection out the back to the computer.

I found this one at Goodwill for $15.00, but don't expect to get that lucky.

Depending on the camera, you may be able to just go to Radio Shack and talk to them about hooking you up with something as well. Also, if you have access to another camera you may be able to daisy chain them together. Basically you would run the video from one camera, through the second camera, and then into the computer.

Thanks for the info guys. I looked into the DV Bridges and holy crap they are expensive. Found a film place that will take the hi-8 tapes and dub them to mini dv for $5 a tape. I should be editing by next week. You guys should see the footage I get to play with, it's incredible.

I got real lucky on finding this DV bridge. One of my employees was at the Goodwill and saw the thing sitting on a shelf for $15.00. He called and asked if I wanted it, I told him to buy all that he could find for that price.

Another employee was at a different Goodwill and saw a 65" Mitsubishi big screen tv for sale for $180.00. It said that it didn't work and needed repair. He plugged it in real quick and figured out that they just had it on the wrong video input, so he got a great deal on a big screen that is still in his living room today.
