what about....pulling the plugs while you hit the cyls with fogging oil( i then cycle the motor, not start it to "spread the oil")what about....make sure the carb is out of fuel....or add "stabil"....what about draining lower unit oil to make sure any moisture is drained and then add new oil for winter. (grease the zerks) thats what im gonna do for my little 25johnson kicker. im sure people more wise than me will tell you more. but good luck anyway. tree37
oh yeah... what about pulling the battery and take it inside the garage and store it up off the floor....what about cover the motor to protect it from the northwest winter rains, as i understand it. t37
Id do everything that tree37 said to do...
Add some good fuel stabilizer to your tank, run the boat for at least a good 10 min to make sure all the stabilizer is flushed thu the system.
Then fog the cylinders
Replace the spark plugs
Drain and add new lower gear oil
and grease away!!

in the Northwest does it even get cold enough to freeze? do you folks winterize for the off season meaning no fish running and your rig is just not being used? im winterizing an I/O jet and a kicker for temps of -50F and long duration. napa down there carries this stuff called fluid flow. i believe its a rust inhibitive. i used it once when my dad brought it up from oregon. we cant find it up here. it coats the surfaces and seemed to protect them. i used my remaining can on the surfaces as i put my boat to bed for the winter. we'll see. tree
For outboard 4 strokes that you use all year, use Stabil, keep the gas topped off to reduce the possibility of condensation in the tank, and keep 'em tipped down all the way when parked.
I don't pull the batteries, but I do put a trickle charge on them the day before I go fishin'.... Seems to work.
