Binoculars
What Binoculars do you guys use while hunting. brand, model, and size? I had some cheap pair that broke and need to get a new pair.

Re: Binoculars
I just bought some Cabelas brand (XT 12X50) bunoculars. I truly believe they compare to "name" brand binocs at the $700 - $850 price point. For 3 bills they rock! I suggest you try out several pairs and compare. Cabelas contracts with higher end producers to build them a product at a certain price point, and since they have a much lower mark-up on "house" brand gear, you get a better bang for your buck.

I use Nikon Monarch ATB 10X42s. Right around $300 and great glass, complete waterproof and no fault no questions ask replacement warranty for 25 years. You run them over with your truck, send em in you get a new pair.....

Re: Binoculars
Leica Geovids 8 power. Built in range finder. Not cheep. Good glass isn't. Only thing I might do different is go to 10X.
IMO if you spend 1/2 enough for top quality glass, you should wait and buy the good stuff, or used.
I held off this year on a new spotting scope. Waiting to buy top shelf stuff.

Re: Binoculars
I've had great luck with the Stiener low end predator. Try looking through a pair at night. If you can see it with your naked eye, you can see it through the Stieners. And not too tough on the pocket book.

I'm with you Hunt2much (although your name is an oxymoron). I use Swarovski 8x30's. The 10x42s are on my list - my brother has a pair and they are worth every penny.

Re: Binoculars
I've had Zeiss 10 X 40 for twenty years and love them. Prior to that I had a variety of the less expensive brands and can say there is no going back. For something more portable, I am now looking at Zeiss Conquest 8 X 30s. The price is hard to swallow, but I think worth it in the long run.

These glassess don't get any press but if you talk with the people who sell lots of bino's, these come highly rated and for less then half the cost of Swarovski's.

Barska. They gave served me well and do not cost a bunch of $$$$. Always clear, work well in low light and are tough! PM me if you would like to know where to get a good deal on them.

Re: Binoculars
I have been saving for quite awhile for some nice binos. I have used some inexpensive glass and there are so many disadvantages that i', ready to spend some $$$. I have heard that if you are spending large amounts of time behind the glass then you need great quality. A few years ago i bought a new scope, Leupold VXIII. After comparing the difference of glass, i have seen the light. No pun intended!!

Re: Binoculars
12 X 50'S !!!!!
THE HIGHER THE POWER THE BETTER! (unless you bird watching :grin
I don't have the cash or desire to spend way too much on binocs...I use 12x50 bushnells and will never go to any lesser power, or to a more expensive set. it is worth the extra weight to have the higher power. I glass constantly, that's how I hunt (mostly west side blacktails and roosy's...but it's even more imporant over east cause you can see so much further), and I have spotted so many more things with higher power binocs...instead of bodies, I see ear twitches, legs, tails, antlers, faces, etc.
Also, I folded down the rubber eye piece thing that cups against your eye when looking through the binocs. The closer you can get your eye to the lens, the larger the field of view will be...try it, it's awesome.
good luck

Leica Geovid's 10x42...I sold my Swarovski 10x50's to get them. Glass is very comparable, but no reason to pack two pieces of equipment when you can pack one...

Worst mistake you can make is to look through good glass, all of a sudden I was no longer happy with my leupolds.
On a side note, my buddies' leica rangefinder binos don't work as well as a rangefinder as our leica 1200 yard rangefinders.

Re: Binoculars
I have Kahles (Swarovski's value line) in 8X32.
Great glass and really convenient size.
If I were to do it again, I might buy 10X42.
The 50's are great for light but seem kind of bulky.
I tried some Minox compacts and was very impressed.
I would look at Minox full size for hunting glass, too.
The Nikon and Pentax are good for the price.

Re: Binoculars
I have Nikon Monarchs 8x42 - (paid $250) good bang for the buck, but got water inside them last year in elk season, couldn't get them to defog, had to send them back for repairs.
Just got Zeiss Conquest 8x30 BT's. (Paid $265-clearance price online, brand new in box) Holy cow what a difference! Brighter, lighter, clearer, sharper, less focusing required, great field of view. Don't buy through Cabelas, shop around the web. You can save at least $100 that way.

Best Christmas present my wife ever gave me...Zeiss 10x40.
I've got the chance to see many wonderful places with that glass and have yet to want more.
My son has a pair of 10x42 SLC , He has used them in deserts and jungles as a Marine FO and sniper, they look like they have been used. They have held up and work very well.
