Default Coastal "super bowl" Chrome!! (Pics) Corky & Weight added!

Slept in and diddn't make it to the river tell 9:00. Worked my way into the crowd and got a place to fish.

This is the first one, caught on custom corky, green yarn while drift fishing on my third cast of the morning! Needless to say I didnn't make any friends with the crowd.

Here is the second one taken about half and hour later taken on custom corky, green yarn while drift fishing.

This was my last one taken an hour and a half later on custom corky, green yarn while drift fishing. I was ready to leave and had even taken my weight off, but one of the kewl guys I was fishing next too hooked and landed one after he put on one of my custom weights that I had gave him. So, I put a weight back on and third cast had a limit to be cooked at a super bowl party to be enjoyed w/ a keg of beer !

Here is the custom corky.......Sunrise w/ pink pearl revlon added (thanks skrimmy).

Custom slinkies, made with heavy wall surgical tubing in various shot and tubing sizes. I found and article in STS in 1994 that suggested using these. Have stopped using lead and slinkies since

Ty,
Great pics and good post.
Question? What are you calling a custom corky? You add a color overlay? New color entirely? Molding your own?.
Way to make a hit at the party with fresh steel!!

First question, what is this custom corkie?

Second question (by far the most important) Where is the party with the keg of beer?

Good job on the fish!

As for the hole punch. I know on some rivers I fish they punch the gill plate of recycled fish.

Again good job on the fish

Lets see, the custom cokie is a birhgt red / chartruse that is overlaid w/ pink peral fingernail polish that makes a dinomite bright color yet very pink and very chartruse combo that is deadly.

I think the weights I use have more to do w/ my success. I stuff buckshot in surgical tubing and it is great. I saw a article way back in 1994 in STS about it and ever since I have stoped using both lead and slinkies and have used this kind of wieght great success!

Bright red/chart..thats a new 1 in my book. way to be inovative by adding the finger polish.

as to the weights..sounds good. buck shot size your using is 00? or are use just using bulk slinky shot.

Blacktail,

My total for this winter thus far since I arrived off the boat on the 20th of December and started fishing on the 22nd of December is:

42 steelhead and 4 coho landed in 17 trips to the same river.

Two steelhead where natives, 1/4 3+ salt fish, 1/2 hatchery brood stock, and 1/4 wild brrod stock.

I have kept 19 steelhead and half of the fish I have released have been 1+ salt (< 24") females that where mostly wild brood stock.

And yes, your totals do remind me how poor of a fisherman I am.

I was actually a day late, I heard rumors on the street that Saturday was a better day, even though the water went up in the late afternoon.

Unfortunately everyone knows where this spot is, however, many can catch fish when it is good, but, when fish are lein, that is when skill and creativity kick in.

I will get a pic for you guys on the weights.

Ty, out of stupidity what does the surgical tubing do differently than the slinkies or led?

Thank you very much for all the pics and helpful hints.

I'm kinda wondering the same thing. My buddies use this system with the lead shot in the surgical tubing, but I never saw any difference between that and your good old fashion slinky. Except...the surgical tubing weights are easier to make, no melting and pinching involved.

That is the funniest thing about the surgical tubing method, most people don't think it is much different other than bein easier to use.

TRY IT!!!! Slikies roll, and still catch on the bottom occationally and worste of all make a dampining feelin gof bottom and even worste in the wrong stituation feel like a fish at times.

Tubing catches the bottom hard like pencil lead, but the "spring" energy of the tubing bounces and actually magnifies how u feel bottom and that enegy to keep the weight straight helps keep it no hung up.

So, u can use more or less weight than u normally do and be very very effective.

If u never try, u will never know, and that mean more fish fer the kids that are using um.

One other advantage is u can load the shot in the tubing after running the mainline and leader in float fishing and certain drift fishing situations.

Thanks for the tip. I have the tubing and .175 shot. Should I go get some larger shot, seems like the rubber would be kinda buoyant so I might need to gett the .210 or even larger. Whadda ya think? BTW, I'm thinkin' about coming down tomorrow morning and fishing it most of the day, it looks like I got myself a job and I start next week so I'd like to get a limit under my belt before then. Will you be fishin' tomorrow? I usually like to start down by the Cedar tree or up by the gauge before I head for the meat hole. I'll be wearing green Hodgman neoprenes, a black SAE sweatshirt and a blue SAE hat(oh, and I drive a gold '89 BMW, it looks really out of place but you can't miss it). Say hi if ya see me.

The tubing isn't boyand as long as u fill the gaps as u fill it with lead.

Goodluck, hopeu tear um up!

Do you rig it as a slider or solid. Do you secure the BB's with epoxy or anything ???
