Default Broadband internet

I finally made the jump to broadband high speed internet through Comcast late last week. I have a question about the firewall though.

How do I know that I'm being protected and that the McAffee (sp) software is actually running also? I'm just trying to cover my bases and to make sure I'm protected.

What are you looking to protect yourself from with this firewall?

I have Comcast and Norton Anti-virus, Zone Alarm firewall and Spyware Doctor (along with Adaware, Spybot, Microsoft Anti-spyware and Trend Anti-spyware).

I would recommend at least the free version of Zone Alarm.

Good luck.

Software firewalls are good. Putting a router between your cable modem and your computer will create a functional firewall that can be configured to provide additional security. There's a TON of information at www.broadbandreports.com which can help you understand and consider options.
